well the saga continues! Put the car on the rollers today at SPC in Horsham. First of all the car kept twitching when the turbos came on boost so after 20 mins of adjustment it finally sat still. However, the car would spin the wheels up at 5000rpm, so the rollers were reading 5k but the car was really doing 6.5k. We thought it was the fact there wasnt enough weight on the back wheels so they tried more pressure on the straps but nothing! We tried waiting for the tyres to warm up but it still kept spinning the wheels up!

Basically the spinning of the wheels meant the dyno was only seeing 5k rpm instead of the true 6.5-7k rpm!

Im off to Paramount in slough tomorrow but will definately be at the 911uk dyno day, thanks for the email Zero, are you going?

Dom, check the 996tt X50 tuning thread running concurrently... some more i/c chat there.

Just read up on the cargraphic plenum - claiming 30hp advantage... if true, then combined with a remap on a 420tt i'd think you're slightly above 500hp.

However, you really are missing out without an exhaust !!

In terms of dyno's, Ray West at Thruxton, Andy/Matt use the old G-Force dyno at Aylesbury, DMS have a dyno in Shampton etc... all these guys can do a decent chassis dyno pull for you so you have a baseline for your mods. I'm going to the Evolve day purely because my car has run on that dyno pre-mods, so I'll have something to compare it to.

So have you finally solved the problem of TT's not sounding good - is it as impressive as a non-turbo six, similar or very different?

I was the person who took my 996tt to Austec, before the remap I had fitted a pair of motorsport K24's, uprated FPR, Milltek exhaust with 200 cell, Silicone hoses and Forge DV's.

I have owned several TVR's in the past and still got a Tam in the garage, I have always been impressed with Paul at Austec so I thought I'd give him a chance with the 996, and I've got to say I'm pretty happy with the results.

Paul mapped the car so the boost come in progressively starting at 1.0bar and rising to 1.2bar which it holds to the redline, the car feels a lot more powerful than standard and than my previous revo mapped 996tt on K16's.

I haven't put the car on any rollers so can't give an exact power output but I did take part in the Fighting Torque events last month and managed a 11.5 q/m and hit 175mph in the standing mile. I was pretty much the same speed as David Yu's modified Nissan GTR which is running about 570bhp.

I would like to get the car on some rollers just to compare it to other modified 996tt's and also to catch up with what other people have done to their cars, I live in Surrey and work in West London.

Dom

11.5 is a quick qtr time Dom, what was the terminal speed you reached at the qtr ?

In this mths evo mag David Yu says that his GTR has with the Cobb Access port been remapped to 547hp.

Per my comments earlier, if you want your car dyno'd then check here to see if there are any spaces left...

http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=47261

Be good to catch up.
What a shame I can't do the 26th as I'm in Hamburg on a stag do...wish me luck! I'll keep an eye out for the results and maybe we could organise another one in the not too distant future. I've just checked EVO and your right, he also claims that he timed himself at 0-60 in 3.2 sec's and 0-100 in 7.6 sec's, and he can do that every run with his auto box and launch control! They didn't clock the speed on the q/mile, but if I'm near the GTR's figures then I'm happy.

I'll be there mate - had my car dyno'd there and deeply unimpressed by them to be honest. Won't say much due to name and shame etc but happy to PM you with my thoughts. If I were you, if you're going to evolve anyway, seriously, try and get a dyno run there and ditch the paramount day. Their graphs are rubbish and their cooling isnt up to much imo.

3.2 and 7.6 are v quick times for the GTR, but mainly reflect well on its launch control and transmission shifting speed.. and its ability to maintain boost during the shift. But frankly the 60-100mph time of 4.4secs isnt much to shout about - the 100hp down, manual syock 996tt X50 was timed by autocar 60-100mph at 4.6s, and for sure if you equalised the shifting speed advantage of 2nd to 3rd in the gtr, the X50 would be faster.

Well I'm more than happy if my 996tt will hit 100 in less than 8 sec's, I'm guessing my car puts out about 550bhp in it's current state of tune. It'll be interesting to do a couple of power runs to get an idea of fuelling and intake temps........as it won't be long before I want more power!!

On a similar note, had my car dynoed today by a certain dyno company......Not impressed, the fan equipment was woefully poor!!! They were like fans you'd use in your house on a hot day!!! The dyno read out is not to bad considering its normal 97 super instead of vpower and the air temps were way to high. Cant wait till Saturday smile

Lol... I did try and warn you !! WTF use is plotting MPH on the x axis ? And wheres the power to the wheels, the boost info, the AFR's ? Luckily when I ran there it was a freebie... sure as heck wouldnt pay for it, and I had to think twice as to let my car run on a set up with such poor cooling. Did it in the end as was too curious to know what it would run, having just seen a GT2 and 997tt run !!

Seperately, thats impressive power on the dyno. Those big turbo's are clearly flowing pretty well, albeit how does the power translate on the road... you find it useable ? Are you still running the stock 420tt intercoolers ?

Look forward to running on Sat... Evolve have proper charts and better cooling... I always enjoy rolling road days regardless whether or not they replicate "porsche hp" or real world conditions - its a bit of fun and always interesting as a comparison on the day between cars.

I have that data but on seperate sheets, a camera phone can only achieve so much smile

The power delivery is perfect for me, its laggy but that means I now achieve 30mpg on motorways because boost only kicks in when provoked!! It achieves full boost at about 3.5k and holds it well. My only gripe is the constant interuptions I now get from PSM and TC even in the dry and in a straight line!

Because I was up that way today I thought sod it, for £45 I may as well do it. Torque figures are supposed to be down the right hand side but that cant be right can it??????

Thanks for your positive feedback bud.

I couldnt work out what that lower line is either !!

I would have thought that the programming could smooth out the power delivery somewhat... one of the things I like about my remapped X50 is the fact that the delivery is much more linear now albeit clearly the K24's can't provide the kick that your turbo's can. On saturday will take you for a spin so we can compare notes.

I think your torque should be much higher, is it showing 390?

The Gallardo has 520hp and 380tq but that is a totally different set up being NA.
