Hi Pikey
Nice write up. I am about to exchange my Range Rover for a new one after 4 years and spent some time in the Porsche West London show room this morning waiting for my 997tt to get fixed (second week in a row that I am there - first a puncture now the rearview mirror fell off the windscreen). The new Cayenne is a big improvement on he old one. The panorama roof looks good too. A new Tdv8 2011 RR is about 8ok - how much did you end up spending on the Cayenne - if you want to reveal it?

The Cayenne is more of a direct comparison with an RR Sport father than 'Full Fat' on both price and interior size. However I found (and I think this is opinion rather than fact!) that the Cayenne 'appeared' bigger inside than the RRS. I think if you're considering the two you would need to be sure that the Cayenne can give you the internal space you need. However, no matter how excellent the RR's drive is, at speed the Cayenne excels in comparison. Depends what you're after really.

The spec we ordered (see page 1) was 60 (so diesel with a lot of extras), but the varients are wide so you could spend as little as 40 or as much as 100. A point worth noting is as you go up the range you get more included (ie. SatNav comes with the Turbo) so you can't directly compare the options we have against a higher or lower base model.

White is the new black, looks great.
Anyone driven a hybrid yet?

I've heard mixed reports about the Hybrid. Price looks expensive compared to Diesel, and long term tax savings may be offset by future technology/battery costs. Anyone driven a hybrid yet?

However, if someone actually needs a practical, luxury/sporting, family SUV, then I guess the new Cayenne is probably the best you can buy. Think it will be replacing our 6 year old X5, which has done diligent service, but Porsche have moved the game on (at last).

.......Telephone & SatNav. You're driving along with directions on the pod in front of you, the main screen and out of the speakers. A phone call comes in and it shows me the caller details on the pod, the main screen and of course doesn't play audible directions. So for the time you (or in this case your passenger) is on the phone, you don't know where you're going. It won't let you change mode back to directions so you'll be a bit lost for a while....
In the new Touareg there's a display between the dial which you can choose the turning directions - is it a completely different nav system?Ranger 6 said:

Call comes in, both main screen and dial/pod flip over to show the telephone details. Neither the buttons on the main screen nor the steering wheel controls can reselect the navigation, you have to wait until the call ends.
Unless this is a setting that someone can tell me how to turn off...

Congrats on the car Pikey ! Thought you were getting it in September?.
Thanks for the great write up,good read. Still yet to order, any thing you would change as your spec is very close to what i want.

Yes, initially we were expecting it about a week before September, then two. Then it turned up! We were going to wait but after the dealer sent us pictures of it, we were convinced and collected it!
Options: We haven't used memory seats yet, but may do more when my wife drives it more. The 'stainless steel front apron' is barely visible. Having seen the power boot lid, that looks good, but as we've never had one before we won't miss it! The standard boot lid is well balanced anyway. Apart from that, they were pretty much spot on!

Yes, I've heard this many times too. I can see them addressing this at / before the Facelift... unless they don't want to have a reputation for being a school-run vehicle?![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)
Anyway, there's certainly the room in there and it's not as if I have a spare tyre anyway.
