The 991 RS will have some impact I think on the 4.0, especially if the 4.0 loses the tag as the 'most powerful n/a 911 engine' and that sort of stuff. Don't think one would go as far as saying the 4.0 owners will be displeased though as the nature of car development means there's always a newer/fast/more powerful car. The 4.0 will always be able to stand as the last iteration of the motorsport proven engine - something which I increasingly doubt the 9A1 ever will be (not that it necessariyl has any impact on how good or otherwise the 991 gt3/rs will be though).isaldiri said:

I would suggest Aldi and BMW have lost the plot big time in the name of 'progress' with their supposedly more driver focused cars I.e RS4 and M3 M4 and its not just down to the transition from na to 'turbines'. Drive any of these and its personality bypass extreme as was the case with the recent Autocar test when the cumbersome slab sided M4 didn t even get a look in........Audi/BMW have made these moves and are enjoying great success, the old stuff is good to reminisce over but that is about it.

Hard to tell yet. The 996RS is much rarer than the 997 trio, so I would think that the most valuable cars in the long run might be the 996RS and the 997 4.0. I think they will all hold value, but not the kind of stratospheric rise the earlier and rarer cars. Personally do no care..bought them for experience rather than investment.Audi/BMW have made these moves and are enjoying great success, the old stuff is good to reminisce over but that is about it.

You have the right attitude, but I suspect many 4.0RS owners (not so much the 996RS) are in a trap - do i drive it or don't I? No doubt there is a direct link between price rises & mileage accumulated on such cars. Hope this this syndrome does not afflict the 991 GT3.Mermaid said:

Theres a right time, place and appropriate weather to use every interesting car.......but so much of todays motoring can be humdrum e.g supermarket trips, sitting in the outside lane of a boring motorway racking up miles etc etc and for these occasions may as well use a 'shed' which can often be as much fun whilst keeping the miles down and hopefully value up on your p and j.....BMCG said:

Didn't they argue something along the lines that the engine in the 991 GT3 "revs too quick" for the average manual car driver? As such it is no surprise that the RS will also be PDK only, otherwise they would just admit that the RS engine has worse characteristics. "Porsche is dedicated to bringing the highest performance vehicles to our customers" said Mr Muller, "but at the same time we recognize the increasing need to produce the most energy efficient vehicles in recognition of new regulations and customer demand".
"Today we introduce PorscheHundEnergieKoncept, which will first be available in the 991 GT3RS. PHEK utilizes the unused space normally occupied by the rear seats by installing a specially designed roll cage. Not just a roll cage, but an integrated dog cage. The floor of the cage has a belt on which the dog runs, and the cage incorporates a small screen showing cats which the dog chases. (videos of other animals available at extra cost.)
The energy generated by the dog is channelled into a small battery which provides auxiliary power to the steering. At this stage we feel that the technology is not yet sufficiently advanced to provide extra HP to the RS,so this is our first step, indeed a first step for the industry.
Given the sporting nature of the GT3RS, VAG Chairman Dr. Ferdinand Piech was concerned at any dilution in the rawness of the RS. " No PHEKing Porsche should run like a dog", he remarked
Qualified buyers will need a sufficiently sized dogs, (dealer inspection required), or alternatively a limited run of PDs ( Porsche Dobermans) can be supplied, and the car can be painted to match the dog.
There are plans for a more completely powered vehicle using this technology. It will be called the Porsche Canine.

For those interested in the PHEK option for the RS, I have a little insider information.
As usual, the thing was not fully tested in all field conditions, but there will not be a recall. There will be a much improved Gen.2 version which addressed a problem that arose during long distance driving.
Dogs sometimes need to do their business, and clearly inside the car is definitely not on. The new,improved PHEK ultimate 2 includes a tail sensor, and when the dog is ready the new feature, PDK-K is activated. The belt draws back leaving a hole for the dog, lined with a plastic bag. Once complete the belt comes down automatically sealing the bag. The area is of course full ventilated.

(PorscheDumpKontrolle-Kanin), will be an essential for all buyers when they go to the dealer, saying "PHEK U.2" for me.
Dealer options include bags with the Porsshce Crest, of course.
The Chief Tester has been seen on the Nordsheisse, but Hans Braun does not do interviews....
