Just had a great weekend with ours at Prescott Revival. An invited clubs meeting by the Marcos Club & TIPEC were one of the invited clubs. Great drive up from Kent, a lot of it across country rather than motorways with our chairman in his 911 C4S Cab, proved that in the dry the lower weight of the Boxster matched the BHP of the 911. Party Sat night with lashings of food.
Then today we were able to run on the hill for £20 for two runs. This morning at Prescott started very very wet but by midday the rain had stopped & quite a few of us signed on for a run up the hill.
Did two runs in the Boxster & decided that was probably the lot as I was gaining in confidence each run & it would have ended in tears. Caused a bit of wear on the rear tyres & really enjoyed myself. Scared the Missus witless as well
Have always wanted to go hillclimbing as a competitor & this has reawakened this urge. Over the years I've built & not completed for one reason or another 3 cars.
A couple of pics from Prescott today, as always the rest are on http://www.pbase.com/tr7v8
This Stratos was lovely

That is a very special colour and you have good taste.
Paint code L999 is a scanned sample.
Estoril Blue is 335 apparently.
Got myself a 2004 986 Boxster S yesterday. My bank account wouldn't describe it as poverty Pork but this thread feels like a suitable home for it.
It's wonderful! It replaced a VX220 and whilst it does feel a bit soft in comparison it just does everything so well; it's great for hooning, cruising, going for some shopping, everything!
As far as options go it has PSM, Upgraded Sound System, 6 Disc Changer, Wind Deflector as well as other minor things.
Oh and the noise it makes!
It's done 81k miles so hopefully it's relatively free of IMS issues. It's just had new brake discs all round and the coil packs were recently changed too.

Hello again fellow poverty pork owners. My S should have a pair of these fitted at the end of the week.
On the more routine front, I stuck in a can of Wynns for whatever placebo effect that gives, used a dark blue Renovo colour reviver and today treated the hood with Fabsil which should add another layer of water repellent. Roof looks much better now. Also fitted a new pair of Continental Sport Contacts, bought for a relative bargain of £305 ish delivered.
Just clocked 66k, that's 7 k since March, most of that done up to July.
On the negative side I've noticed a slight floaty sensation when really pressing on. I suspect wishbone bush.

Stainless exhaust manifolds now fitted. Its now got a stainless exhaust system bar the cats. First impressions are +10bhp on the butt dyno! It seems to rev a lot more freely from 2k rpm . I haven't really stretched it yet but from 2k to 5k you can feel a noticeable difference.
The sound has changed too, some for the better and some not quite so. I seem to have lost some of the growl in the mid range and a bit of edge nearer the top end. But, the silencer on its own was quite loud. The resonance has damped down a bit and is over a much smaller rev range say from 2.2k to 2.8k.

Sounds good. Are they as easy to fit as they look in the picture? It looks like it's just a few bolts (assuming access to a ramp)? The sound has changed too, some for the better and some not quite so. I have been scanning the net last 2 weeks for Boxsters, debating if to take the jump and just buy one with fairly high miles on, but wondering if I will then suffer with more running faults......
There are lots of buying guides around. My personal opinion is that mileage doesn't really matter. However, you do need to be aware of: suspension components (bushes and shocks), front arms, brakes, clutch, IMS/RMS, tyres, radiators (inc. air con).
If you buy a car with all of those in good condition (and probably a few other things I've forgotten) then that's more important than mileage IMHO.
If you don't, you could end up doubling the cost of the car to put it right.

I didn't fit them, not that I couldn't as fitting is the easy part. The bolts and studs are known to break and I had 4 break which needed drilling out. If you have access to ramp, gas tools and patience then you might be OK. It took 3.5 hours without being in a huge rush. Oh - and these were £110 from eBay
