Cayman GT4 Is it quick enough?

I was hoping the GT4 would have a high revving, zingy engine (like the 991 GT3 but with better sound) plus short gearing and everything else just as it is. There's a market for an RS with just such a set-up IMO.
We need someone with a bit of a mental streak and deep pockets to buy a cat D GT4 when on eventually appears and stick a tuned 3.4 from ehresmann or similar in it along with a shorter final drive that lasts more than 100 miles. That would be very special.2 things for me.

Running the engine in so I'm not taking it to the redline ,but from memory of the pec day the engine does take on an extra sense of urgency at the top end,not sure where this concept that it's all low down pull comes from.
The engine feels much better in the gt4 than in any of the numerous carrera s models I have driven ,which to me felt a bit weak low down.
It is so composed that I do think the car feels slower than it is.

See above. Frankly, when the first GT3s came out people considered them primarily track cars from what I can recall. Nowadays we expect to be able to use them in the road too. I can't think of a single review of a 996 GT3 that complains about the gearing.

The. Gt4 has the same gearing as the road going cgts yet again no one moans as much about the long gearing also the CR/spyder before it but slightly slower in gear speeds due to smaller wheels
The moaning of the long gearing on forums seems to only apply to the gt4 most likely as there is nothing else to complain about!

My old 3.4L engine is at Jens' place so you can have it for a reasonable price. I'm looking now at 4.0L conversion of my 3.8L

Yes but the Spyder and its ilk are cars to enjoy the journey. The GT4 is a car to enjoy the drive, different proposition.Interesting point about the gearing on 996GT3 being almost the same. I cannot remember that far back but I think the reward for keeping the old Mezger lump in the higher rev range was much greater than the GT4 lump thus adding to the entertainment and interactivity.
It's a fair point that quibbling about the gearing is a fairly minor point in a lovely car, and yes it's not a "slow" car but it's frustrating that it could be that little bit better!
