I'd say a 997.1 C2S up to £25k is good value IMO.

Even with a £10-12k engine you're £35-37k.

Higher chance the engine won't break so you're in a car for a lower cost and at worst you end up with a car with a freshly repaired engine.

Only higher mile 997.2 are sub £40k.

You're paying £45k+ for a lower mileage 997.2 C2S.

Higher mile 997.2 could well need engine work at some point.

Both 997.1 and 997.2 are at the bottom of their depreciation curve and getting a good car will only become harder as time goes on.

Buy in at the point you can afford or don't buy if you can't afford to buy a car and engine refresh.

Agreed. A Hartech rebuild is not £15k btw

Only buy a car that you are prepared to fix should it go wrong (that applies to all cars) but buying a low mileage £25k 997.1 with £10k in the bank just in case is imo a very attractive option.

yeh look totally - I don't have an issue with rebuilt cars priced around 25k - 27k

Me personally - just wanted get peoples opinion on non-rebuilt cars people at what I felt was overpriced. Thats all - but clearly I'm in the wrong - feels like 70% of you guys think they are fairly priced.

Fair enough.

Budget isn't an issue - and I'm not trying to get the price on 997.1s down (obviously I'd want the best deal - who wouldn't).
Reason why I questioned gen 2 vs gen 1 prices is a rebuild takes the price more or less up to a gen 2 price - and just wanted peoples take on whether that makes sense. And you guys think it does. I stand corrected.

yeh this decent - but isn't OPC just Porsche? Like a like for like rebuild instead of the upgraded nikasel piston linings etc?
No point in buying a rebuild if its still the same engine parts as original 997.

Anyway there's Hartech 997 for £26k fully rebuilt - all new pistons etc.

Be interesting to see what this goes for…
Usually they bids head high a few hours before close of auction.

Looks ok but 2 services in 10 years would put me off.

I did 300 miles in mine in appalling weather going to a conference, I can’t think of many sports cars that would have been so sure footed in those conditions.

Whichever version you end up getting, provided you go in with your eyes open you won’t be disappointed.

agreed, but the habit Porsche (and AMG) have of painting wheels black and then having a sliver stripe on the rim looks awful IMO! I'd get that fixed right away.

Thanks for correcting, my mistake, Porsche did go that way with the GTS though? Why, oh why? Mind you if you look at some of their coloured leather interiors (eg the ones where absolutely EVERYTHING is brown or red or something) their design dept definitely has good taste free days from time to time!

That C4S looks excellent and seems like excellent value to me. With the BBS wheels in silver it would be perfect!

Get rid of the yellow lights and yellow graphics and that's lovely. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to take on the PCCBs though (although I guess you can replace with steel if they're finished) and I do wonder if "leaving the country and have to sell urgently" is code for "I don't have time to let you inspect this". Not too far from me either... scratchchin

A full Hartech rebuild is minimum £12k. Realistically, there will always be a few extras, so in fact probably best to view the cost as near £15k in reality.

Yeh I meant keep 10k for the hartech rebuild and another 5k for refreshing worn parts… so updated black cased headlights, ducktail, re trimmed steering etc etc
