I knew my poverty Porsche had a pretty basic spec but having just checked it is very sparse laugh

I think the 3 spoke wheel is an optional extra and became standard on the S and later facelift cars.

Is that an OEM colour? Don’t think I have ever seen that before.

I think the 3 spoke wheel has extended leather over the airbag which is a nice addition. This car also has proper leather door cards too. The roof has been converted to glass window so still has the original 3 bar mechanism.
Guessing you can tell it's glass as it's got a smaller aperture? Currently growing my boxster beard as quick as possible.

Side note: spoke to the girlfriend and she was a fan of the colour.
I like the color. Anything a bit unusual when buying a Porsche is good in my book.
Have you seen this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274407962252

I have, but in my (uneducated, I might add) eyes, I don't see it being worth an extra £1000 more.

Yes.

Option code: XPA, and 436 for the 3-spoke wheel itself. Should be on the options sticker if original nerd

Has anyone gone from a 987.1 to a 997.1? What did you miss, if anything? I really fancy a 997 (engines aside...) and think a 996 as an only car to do it all is a bit too raw for me so a 997

https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/10659865?u...

Something like that is getting very, very tempting.
I did, went from a 987 2.7 to a 997 C4S. At the time it was my only car for commuting, holidays, everything.
I didn't think there were any areas where the 997 wasn't a big step up to be honest, the 997 had so much grip, much higher spec option wise (adaptive seats, xenons, cruise, full leather, PSE all quite rare on 987s), more power, sounded much better sounding, preferred the looks.
Not being controversial, and it was over triple the price, they are both absolutely fantastic cars and I adored my 987, kept it for 4 years.
Did not miss the Boxster one bit at the time, although 6 years later I did go back to one & bought a 987S as my station / summer car & was lovely to have one back on the fleet for a bit, stunning cars.

Thanks - is the extended leather airbag standard on the 996 Turbo - I always thought of them as the "911 turbo" airbag version?

Dont know

I just know that on the boxster the centre airbag cover is just plastic but an additional option is for it to be covered in leather

I've even seen some earlier cars with the 4 spoke wheel with the centre covered in leather too

So clearly its been a Porsche option for a while

Is this some sort of halo effect? You could say the 550 Anniversary wheel is the Carrera GT version, but nobody really says this.

From my amateurish web sleuthing over the years, I think there were 3 airbag styles available to the 9*6 cars:

Early 9*6 standard 4 spoke

Later 9*6/Option 3 spoke

Later 9*6/Option 3 spoke extended leather

I don't think I've ever seen a 996 turbo with either of the first or second airbags?

You can buy the side pieces for the console in leather or get your side pieces trimmed in leather, they pop off with 3 screws.
The center console is the most noticeable bit by far, the stitching on the doors is nice but it's the console in your line of sight all day when you're driving. The full leather is rare on the 987.

Very thorough research there! How odd that there’s a difference in the frequency of the option between gens. Why is that then? Maybe because the gen 2 console looks more modern all in black so people didn’t feel the need to spec leather. The grey in gen 1 is a bit grim.

I’ve seen the lower console in leather in a few cars and that really makes it look a lot more premium. That one would be easy if expensive to retro.

^^^ Economic factors might have come into play. The money supply in 2007 was very different to 2010.

When house prices are flying up, it's easy to tick the Porsche options box on that new sports car.

So what's collective Porsche beard think about pastel yellow, and does anything stand out (in a bad way) about that car? Looks to be specced with no centre console delete, no heated seats, no cruise (but cable throttle on the 2.5s so unsurprised), possibly sport packaged, no upgraded stereo, pre-00 so dual IMS, and vent cupholder(!!).

Basically looking at this or an early Z4 3.0.
I personally love that colour. Had seen the advert before, what put me off:

- No mention of any useful work carried out recently
- Not clear what needs respraying but assume its a can of worms
- Personally I dislike the glass roof on cars that didn't have it from factory

Then again, its really not expensive...

All these cars are getting old and tired. Especially those languishing at the bottom of the market and therefore firmly in this Poverty Pork thread. Therefore if you value nice clean tidy fresh paint and you also like unusual then whats not to like about this car. Assuming it has been painted well of course.

Judging by the pic showing the work being carried out I'm not so sure it was a careful job. They seem to have sprayed all over the headlight support bracket. To me that reveals quite a lack of detail.

By comparison, looking at the videos posted earlier of that guy with the wrapped 996, the attention to detail that went into the subsequent respray seemed much greater.

One of the main drivers to swap (other than it being a 911...) is that the rear space would be incredibly useful and I'm hoping that the things I love about the 987, like the seating position, steering and pedal feel would be very similar in a 997. But I've never driven one.

I think I would have to treat a 997 as a long term prospect and deal with an engine rebuild if/when it arrives. I think 997.1s is one of the best looking of all generations and will be looked upon in 10-15 years as people look at 993s and 964s now. But perhaps not and that's not really relevant to the purchase now. They just seem great value overall.

What are you expecting to use the rear space in a 997 for?

I've found in the 996 at least, that whilst you can fit a child's seat and a child up to say age 10 in reasonably easily, you can't get a normal sized adult in the seat in front of them as it has to be pushed all the way forward to allow space for the child's legs behind.

It's ok for lobbing some shopping in and at a push you can wedge slightly large items in diagonally across the front passenger seat into the rear, but I wouldn't say it's a very useable space.
