Judging by the pic showing the work being carried out I'm not so sure it was a careful job. They seem to have sprayed all over the headlight support bracket. To me that reveals quite a lack of detail.
By comparison, looking at the videos posted earlier of that guy with the wrapped 996, the attention to detail that went into the subsequent respray seemed much greater.

Ha I noticed the headlight bracket as well although to be fair, the risk of removing it and then getting it levelled again (the levellers on my Cayman are heavily rusted and I dare not even look at them) may outweigh the paiin of a little overspray.By comparison, looking at the videos posted earlier of that guy with the wrapped 996, the attention to detail that went into the subsequent respray seemed much greater.

One of the main drivers to swap (other than it being a 911...) is that the rear space would be incredibly useful and I'm hoping that the things I love about the 987, like the seating position, steering and pedal feel would be very similar in a 997. But I've never driven one.
I think I would have to treat a 997 as a long term prospect and deal with an engine rebuild if/when it arrives. I think 997.1s is one of the best looking of all generations and will be looked upon in 10-15 years as people look at 993s and 964s now. But perhaps not and that's not really relevant to the purchase now. They just seem great value overall.
What are you expecting to use the rear space in a 997 for?I think I would have to treat a 997 as a long term prospect and deal with an engine rebuild if/when it arrives. I've found in the 996 at least, that whilst you can fit a child's seat and a child up to say age 10 in reasonably easily, you can't get a normal sized adult in the seat in front of them as it has to be pushed all the way forward to allow space for the child's legs behind.
It's ok for lobbing some shopping in and at a push you can wedge slightly large items in diagonally across the front passenger seat into the rear, but I wouldn't say it's a very useable space.
You can fit 3 full size humans in a 996 / 997 but not 3 plus sized humans. I once tried to fit me - driving - and a 6ft 7in lanky guy with his mate who was seriously chubby - like 30 stone at a guess - into my 997. They didnt fit which I tried to tell them before they started trying.
A child even has trouble in a child seat in the back now. These boosters are now mandatory for a child below 135cm and they use up about 2 inches of headroom. In the back of a 996 a child between 125cm - 135cm needs that headroom or they sit crunched up and bash their head on the side of the car, the rear screen and the roof.

I thought that the owner of the green one had only recently had it done? Seems strange that they would be selling it so soon afterwards. Even a cheapy respray would be £1500+

I think the 3 spoke wheel has extended leather over the airbag which is a nice addition. This car also has proper leather door cards too. The roof has been converted to glass window so still has the original 3 bar mechanism.
Guessing you can tell it's glass as it's got a smaller aperture? Currently growing my boxster beard as quick as possible.Side note: spoke to the girlfriend and she was a fan of the colour.

So what's collective Porsche beard think about pastel yellow, and does anything stand out (in a bad way) about that car? Looks to be specced with no centre console delete, no heated seats, no cruise (but cable throttle on the 2.5s so unsurprised), possibly sport packaged, no upgraded stereo, pre-00 so dual IMS, and vent cupholder(!!).
Basically looking at this or an early Z4 3.0.
- No mention of any useful work carried out recently
- Not clear what needs respraying but assume its a can of worms
- Personally I dislike the glass roof on cars that didn't have it from factory
Then again, its really not expensive...
- The plastic bits are faded, cannot really see this in any of the pics though
- New clutch & flywheel in 2013
- A/c not blowing cold
- Stamps for services most years, except a gap 09-13 (5k miles). Next yearly due ~Nov
- He didn't recall any suspension work in history, but might be there (thick wad of receipts)
- The steering wheel and centre console not factory, only cause for concern for me (accident?). The 3-spoke one on now seems more worn than the miles and gearstick, so I assume it came off a higher mileage car
All in all, I reckon a decent buy. Needs easy £2/3k spend over the next year, meaning for £6500 you have a decent car.
Quite tempted, slight spanner is going abroad next week. If anyone wants the pics let me know I can forward.
This yellow 2.5 seems to be getting a lot of interest.
Bidding up to almost 7 grand.

Biggest difference - well the only difference from the driving seat - in terms of parts and structure of the cabin and controls is the extra inch or maybe a tiny bit more of legroom. To give people an idea I really dont fit in a 986 - its too tight. If I wear some zero sole shoes or socks only then I need to put the seat base in my 996 forward one notch or the clutch pedal is a little too far away.ATM said:

It isn't incredibly useful but then compared to having no seats at all in the back of a boxster maybe it is.

Fitted 2 sets of golf clubs on the rear seats of my 996T when I had it. Very practical car.You can fit 3 full size humans in a 996 / 997 but not 3 plus sized humans. Is a 997 engine, after a rebuild by somelike like Hartech, solid as a rock or is it still likely to suffer the same issues as before?
That's the question to ask the engine builder. What was the failure cause and what has been done during the rebuild to mitigate or eliminate it.I think one of the hardest thing to swallow about the whole rebuild thing is that you don't really end up with a hotted up engine, same headline figures as before, just not broken. I think if you ended up with a nice round 400hp as well, without dropping an extra chunk on fancy bits, it wouldn't seem so daunting.

OT, but I wondered if anyone had come across this on their poverty pork?
It's the roof arm on the drivers side of a 987.1B, above the window.
The roof goes down cleanly and doesn't scrape on anything. Is it sun damage? - lives in Oz.
Are there any products that may help improve it? Any back to black or 303 type products, or does it need a proper spray or dye?
