In which case that's us sorted for the weekend. Lovely. Also gonna pop to some one horse town called Cernay en Dormois out to the East of Reims, as it's where my Great Uncle was shot down and killed back in 1944 (by the bloody Americans - and no, he wasn't in the Luftwaffe, but in the RAF).
Bloody Yanks, nothing changes there then.Yeah, I was very disappointed by it all - spent ages researching what happened to his plane as he was on a training mission in November 1944, over France. We'd all just assumed that it was either a technical problem, or perhaps a nightfighter - turns out two other planes took fire from the ground in the same area - an area that was under US occupation.
There's a shoddy memorial visible on Googlemaps, but, for some reason, I've really wanted to go for ages - when I realised Reims was so close I just needed the excuse, and a rebate from HMRC is that excuse - dunno what he'd think of me turning up in a German car mind you.

Camponile in the very centre of Reims, not on the outskirts. It has underground parking which is steep but got my 911 down ok.There's a shoddy memorial visible on Googlemaps, but, for some reason, I've really wanted to go for ages - when I realised Reims was so close I just needed the excuse, and a rebate from HMRC is that excuse - dunno what he'd think of me turning up in a German car mind you.
Pic from my window
Whilst I was out there I took the old road east from Reims to Verdun the D931, lovely open trafficless road, with some interesting and rather sombre cememtries from WW1 on the way. You realise that losing 60K men to get to a ridge ...... and then finding out the 'ridge' is nothing but a slight incline above everything else is sobering. and finally stopped in Metz the night, (great food and lovely old centre).

Nice one Rich. Hadn't seen that before. Had a great weekend in Reims, but the highlight, for me, was having a poke around here - great place, and several other (French) pork owners in attendance - all of whom were very friendly indeed. The Best Western in Reims is a great location, only 10mins away, and has secure underground parking, though it can be a bit tight (the spaces at the far end are a bit bigger if anybody goes - though ramp is steep, so not sure how GT3 friendly it would be, though a 599 that was there seemed to get away OK).
I love a good road trip - as do quite a few other Pork owners, was this anybody here (Friday morning, about 7am, Eurotunnel):
ETA: Why does thumbsnap do this? F******g thing.

Just booked the Best Western - 380yoyos for two nights, with breakfast and parking included. Allegedly it's very central.
Thanks again for the tips and photos - really looking forward to this now.
It is, we stayed there 8 years ago. Prices seem to have gone up a lot in that time. It had a memorable cocktail bar downstairs, spent one evening getting hammered on cocktails there whilst lounging about smoking cigars in their central court behind the bar. Thanks again for the tips and photos - really looking forward to this now.
