heck again, and the reasons are in plain sight; bikes, boards, dogs, kids etc. etc. that many of us shift if not daily, then at least once weekly. Needs must.
Plus, from my POV, it always feels so very special and 'alive' when I finally park the van and get some quality time in the 911.
Sorry, I was speaking about the daily drive into the office (unless you are talkig dogs and boards to the office.... in which case, sign me up!).Plus, from my POV, it always feels so very special and 'alive' when I finally park the van and get some quality time in the 911.
We still have the XC90 for family gubbins; but for the 5 days I spend going to the office I want to enjoy myself.
On top of lugging dogs, I do also have to lug bits of diggers about too - hence the username.

Having checked the thread, looks like I have to be "That Guy".
Why does anyone own a 911, a very useable daily driver, and then drive.... something else? I've never understood this logic. Mileage, depreciation etc.... these are just excuses. Cars are meant to be driven, why would you want to drive something "worse"? it's like being married to Jennifer Anniston but stepping out with Dot from eastenders!
(We have an XC90 T8 for family outings, but when I got to work/out with the kids on my own it's always the 911).

Daily drive, weekend fun (usually dirtier than this) AND weekend fun round the twisties (shotgun not needed)
But daily drive yes

There will be some people who feel that using a Porsche for work is not the correct image for their job which is probably a fair point in this country so I'd cut them some slack but I think you hit the nail on the head, a lot of people are st scared of depreciation and would rather just "own" the car to give them a nice fuzzy feeling and do the occasional blast...... not what Porsche is about but there we go !Why does anyone own a 911, a very useable daily driver, and then drive.... something else? Though still a long way off the typical Ferrari ownership model : Annual mileage 200. Service.
Annual mileage 200. Service and cambelts.
Annual mileage 150. Service, brake fluid, brake discs and pads.
Annual mileage 100. Service, cambelts.
Annual mileage 50. Service and clutch replacement
and repeat ad infinitum (or until the values are so stratospheric the car isn't driven at all, but it still gets serviced .... ????)

Utterly pointless (and in my experience not typical of the majority of Porsche owners)
997.1 GT3 RS for the weekends. (Average of about 3.8k miles per year in the 4 and bit years Ive had it, so its been used more than most)
The GF has a 981 Cayman. She uses daily.
And the sensible daily is a remapped Audi S1 that we share between us. Running about 310 bhp, nippy little thing and very well built. Ive ran bigger cars, M3's etc and its refreshing to have a run about thats not too thirsty, still good fun and easy to park in town. As quick in the wet as the dry.

(I struggle to get my 12G in... breakdown case is the only way. I get some funny looks when I turn up to Clays!)
I've been thinking about this. I run a 997.1 C2 as a daily and if I were to buy another car, I'd have a fair chunk of fixed costs associated with it. A 10k commuting car would have say £250 general upkeep per year, £500 insurance, £200 VED, washing costs etc and depreciation on top. It will probably give me at least double miles per gallon.
All in all, I think I would save maybe £1000-£1500 a year in fuel costs but it would cost me towards £1000, maybe more, to run it. So no real saving. So might as well continue with 997 as daily.
If my commute were 100 miles round trip, obviously a second car would make much more sense. But at 100 miles per week with other regular 200+ mile trips for business, I think I will continue with the 997 for the moment as a single car.

X5 4.8iS - cannot bear to part with it - only 85k miles and mint... Still quicker than most SUVs and amazing soundtrack...
Thinking of adding a E46 M3 as a spare fun car...
The 928 GTS Manual is far too nice, valuable and rare to be driven daily these days...
The 996.1 GT3 CS is far too nice, valuable, rare and raw to be driven daily these days...
