I almost hesitate to post this on a Porsche forum but here is another option if I can get a 996 with a blown engine;

I can find a refurbished engine for around £1000 on ebay, or a whole car for less than £2000. Has anybody in the UK done this?

It's getting a bit more complicated than just putting a cage etc into a 996 though.

You'll need to check with the msa on engine size as in Europe they can run bigger engines than in uk
Yeah, there might be a 3 litre limit for most UK stuff? Which got me thinking, a 2.7 Boxster sounds like an interesting candidate, cheaper donor car too (£3k?). Hmmmm scratchchin
Just found this thread whilst googling as have been day dreaming about rallying a bit recently myself, and the pub talk got on to "rally GT" type stuff. Unfortunately the 3 litre limit does scupper things slightly, and is very dull of the MSA. Anyway, you can't fight it but I reckon a one make spec Boxster 2.5 Tarmac rally GT series, perhaps based on the MSVR/ Motorsport News Circuit Tarmac Rally Championship could be an excellent idea.

Plenty of cheap Boxster 2.5s and spares about and you could use the spec parts like cages etc that have been designed for the Boxster race series.

Maybe a dual use car for some club racing too, in something like CSCC Modern Classics, 750 Roadsports or the 360mrc endurance series?
