Cayenne V8 S 2004 Electrical Gremlins
Discussion
Wife was out in the 2004 Cayenne V8S yesterday and totally randomly the reverse lights came on, the bonnet open warning came up and the wipers stopped working. Got it home and still the same. I disconnected the battery under the passenger seat, (and broke the plastic seat runner trims). No boot battery in ours,so let it sit with no power for ten minutes and re-connected, still the same ...
Looks like its an OPC thing- sure to be expensive.
Anyone got any bright ideas?
Many thanks in advance.

I would hazard a guess that the car is on it's original battery and that as it's now losing power, it's throwing up electrical anomalies....
It's certainly the first thing I'd be checking....
Nope, sounds the like the classic wiring chaffing problem. The loom rubs on the bodywork under the centre console/tunnel and begins to bare its cabling. I dont think that its a coincidence that all the issues are at the rear. There was a recall i think, there cetainly was for the Touareg. It's certainly the first thing I'd be checking....
My 2003 Turbo had:
Rear hatch opening on it own when driving.OPC Warranty work
Oil pressure gauge stopped working.OPC Warranty
Active suspension compressor failed.OPC Warranty
Headlamp kept bringing up faults codes and not working. OPC Warranty
Vario Can sensor failure. 1st day driving home. OPC Warranty
Heated seat failed 3 days after bought car. OPC Warranty
PCM kept seizing up. 1 week after buying. OPC Warranty
Phone module failed.OPC Warranty
3 coil packs failed. 1st month of ownership. OPC Warranty
MAF failed.6 months into ownership. OPC Warranty.
CV Boot exploded.last month of ownership
Finally another 3 coil packs failed. 11 months from buying and also its last day of ownership. Dealer took car .
PHEW.....never again.

Many thanks for the recommendation. Having booked it into Bournemouth Porsche for tomorrow I get home and it's flat. Charged on a big charger for an hour and she starts with no erroneous problems. Drove about 10 miles all OK and definately charging as it's showing about 13 volts. Get home turn engine off and voltage is down to about 11.5. Looking around it's an 019 battery of 96AH, about £130 from Euro Car Parts or Halfords for a Bosch with 5 year guarantee. So plan to postpone booking tomorrow morning and try a fresh battery first, fingers crossed! It's certainly the first thing I'd be checking....
Cayenne gremlin resurfaced. Took it into OPC, they say its wet under the front footwell carpet and that there is wiring loom corrosion. £1,900 labour plus at least £900 in parts plus VAT. And I only took it in for a new key! Gremlin only surfaces about once every three months. So how do I find out if there was a wiring recall as one poster has suggested?

take it out of OPC then asap and thats a big chunk savedmost indys worth their salt will give you 10% off the parts as well
my commiserations though ... obviously a lot of man hours involved
had same problem on 2004 model cause of it bungs blocked in floor water gets in cant get out wreaked every thing electrical .started of with battery not holding charge turned out many months latter that if we disconected the tv reciver rh side in boot battery held charge yet air bag disc nav tv phone wouldnt function.common fault a friend of mine had same problem porsche told him he was using to much water to clean carpets .
The usual issue on the driver's side is that the rear washer jet pipe comes apart and water enters the Vehicle Electrical System ECU (VES). The loom pins are available separately as in general the pins corrode away causing the issues you mention (bear in mind unit may be damaged also - a new one will require coding once fitted).
The bulkhead panel (Left/Right hand drive panel element) can leak and there was a TI regarding how to seal it but it was never a recall campaign.
The bulkhead drains on either side of the vehicle can block, checking/unblocking the drains is a service item but these are easily overlooked (or missed altogether) the water drain exits the front wheelarch behind the liner, I've seen cars with around 10 litres of water held in the bulkhead on services. The drains should be checked more frequently during autumn or if the car is located in a particularly leafy area. It's not a new problem; 944's filled their rear bootwells and front bulkheads, 9xx their front lid drains - the issue with 20k service intervals on the later cars is you can be misled into thinking 'nothing needs to be checked'

Pope, you have hit the nail on the head! Removed the A pillar cover and the rear wash pipe had split on the join, pushed it back together and then wrapped insulating tape all over to prevent it happening again.
So got out the body control ECU and sure enough there were five corroded pins that were on the verge of breaking off on the top right multiplug which I would imagine is the switching loom as the pins are tiny. The socket was full of greenish gunge which I cleaned out with contact cleaner. In fact two pins did break off when I removed the 26 way multiplug. A little judicious work with a soldering iron and we seem to be back in business. Saved nearly £4K as per the OPC quote. Will keep you posted.

Check your rear washer jet - if it's blocked or washer fluid comes out through the high level brake light get a new one (less than tenner); there are three separate joins in that pipe....................So got out the body control ECU and sure enough there were five corroded pins that were on the verge of breaking off on the top right multiplug which I would imagine is the switching loom as the pins are tiny. Edited to add: if you haven't got antifreeze screenwash - don't use the rear washer system when the car is iced up
