Considering an upgrade to an iPhone 5 but just wondered does anyone out there have any experience of its compatibility with PCM in the new Boxster? Specifically pairing via Bluetooth for use as a phone as opposed to streaming music (I have an old iPod attached via a cable for that functionality)

PCM is v4.3 I believe

Cheers

Does your car have a telephone module with SIM card slot?

If it does, you might want to check that bluetooth calling will still work with an Iphone and PCM 4.

As the Iphone does not store the phone book on the card (like Android), it makes it non-compatible with PCM3 cars with the telephone module installed. Ipod/music works fine.

Yes, I do have the telephone module for PCM so I've just been out to try calling (already have an old iPhone 3G paired with the car). It connects via Bluetooth no problem and reads the phonebook from the phone also. A quick test call worked too, so it seems whatever incompatibilities there were in the past may have been resolved.

IME PCM 3.40 and above are fine with the iphone 5. Works fine on bluetooth without having to disable rSAP.

Good info, thanks. I will need to get my PCM upgraded at service time.

I'd kinda forgotten about my telephone module to be honest - I spec'd it originally because I thought / was advised it was needed to connect to a Bluetooth phone, seems not. So having this, it would be daft to get an iPhone that doesn't support rSAP, now thinking I'd be better off with something like a Galaxy S3 or S4 (when out) to take advantage of it. Thanks all.

^Well probably, if you haven't got an iphone now and you use your phone in the car a lot. I've had an iphone for years, so getting rid of it just to have rSAP isn't going to happen. If only they'd enable it..... I went for the phone module just in case they ever do.

Not tied to having to have an iPhone (don't even have a smart phone currently) so might as well try something different if it offers a little more compatibility. Having had an early iPhone i'd assumed it to be the default choice, but seems things have moved on quite a bit since then.
