Just planning my next car once I get bored with my BMW Z4 3.0, maybe early next year. I've seen some nice 911 C2 Coupes with factory fitted Aero kits and they look stunning.

For now I just want to know what the difference between a C2 and C4 is. The power seems the same.... is it just suspension, interior etc?

Not sure I could stretch to a C4, or rather would prefer to get a low milage C2 for the same price.

think main difference is the number of powered wheels

I think most people feel the C2 is more of a drives car, but the 4 wheel drive of the 4 gives a more planted secure feeling?

Got a 2 myself

C2 = 2 wheel drive, C4 = 4 wheel drive. Apart from front boot space and how they drive they're pretty much the same.

ha ha, pretty obvious then, doh!

Any particular must haves or trim levels to look out for?

Is it always best to get a car with a factory fitted kit?

How much would you say a 2000 model C2 depreciates each year. Just trying to work out how much more it will cost to run than my beemer.

I'm a big 4WD fan, but much preferred the C2 to drive. Bought one with a GT3 aero kit.

The C2 has got massive traction, and personally I don't think you'd need the 4WD unless driving in snow. The C2 also has a much bigger boot if that is an issue.

Drive both though, you may prefer the C4.

I would forget about the 4 wheel drive unless you use your 'sports car' as an everyday and need the grip. (Like Switzerland)

I would spend the money on getting a C2S instead. S=30BHP extra

Just got an insurance quote, only £670 a year. Not bad considering I am 26 and the value of my car, that was also for a 2002 which isn't in my budget.

Would like a 2000 onwards. Any facelifts? I note some have white dials and some have black, is this part of a face lift.

30bhp extra sounds good, although I guess a DMS could remap achieve this...

Can anyone comment on approx servicing costs, service intervals and fuel consumption for a C2.

I have a daily drive which I mostly use during the winter, so 4WD isn't an issue.

Keep the comments coming

Most of the Indies have servicing prices and timescales on their websites. I'd recommend finding one near you, that you'd likely use, see what their site says.

As for MPG, I always make sure the computer shows temperature, there are some things I don't want to know.

When I do peek it's early 20s if driven 'reasonably', I generally get 19.

Wow, is that all....I get around 29.5 in my 3.0 Beemer on Average and around 35mpg on a long trip. 19mpg scares me

It scares me too, it's the exhaust note, can't help ragging it

I guess I've admitted here before that I drive like my Granny .. I get around 25-28 mpg , I don't hit the limiter but I don't totally baby the car either.. I tend not to go above 3000rpm-ish til the oil temp needle is well on it's way past 40c ..Then it's up past 5/6000 for most gear changes (When I can ) This probably accounts in some part for the better mpg.

On the c2/c4 front , As they say , try both .. For me there seemed a lot more 'feel' from the c2 , steering wise .. However, I'm no expert...

You thought thru tip V's manual?? .. An emotive subject here!!!(And don't even start on raggie V's coupe)

I did once get 38mpg, but that's just not me.

I'm up and down the gears just for the sound. I think if it didn't have a trick exhaust system my driving style would be a lot different. The only commuting I do in it generally averages about 12mph, so when I get a chance to open her up, I do!

I thought the OP was referring to a 996 which doesn't have a 2S variant.

Who did your insurance quote? We are the same age, although admittedly i only have 1 years NCB. Suffice to say mine is significantly more expensive than your quote!!!!

what value did you put in for it?

Admiral... best place to get a quick quote.

The value was £33k for a 2002 car. I have 3 years no claims. Putting my girlfriend (who is only 25)down as a named driver reduces my premium by over £250.... has done so for the last 3 years, crazy! Not that she gets to drive it very often Putting any female on it seems to have this effect, even putting your mum down, you'd be amazed by the discount, my mate save over £420 on his M3.

Ive got a face lift C4. In the dry, there's virtually nothing between them, in the wet, when playing, there's a lot in it. Both require a bit of learning to get the most from them and maybe more time in a C2 would let me play in the wet like I can in the C4. Simple laws of physics say that this probably isn't the case.

Average 20-22mpg, get 28mpg on long motorway runs, if kept at 85.

gwatson - Value will certainly play some part of it - Mines a shade over £33k

Got my dad - retired man - as named driver which dropped it by £500

Still a crap load though!
