great timing - it had to happen on Derby Day - was hoping to drive to mates BBQ in the porker - but the battery dies completely. even the clock has stopped ticking :-(

anyway, i'm puzzling over how to open the boot (where the battery resides) when there is no power to activate the latch. any 968 mechanics about not watching the Derby?

Happened to me in my 944.

Clamber over rear seats to get to boot. As far as i'm aware that's the only way to get to battery, no release for the boot that i'm aware of.

Once the charger is connected, should have enough juice to release the boot, using the central locking

Hook a 12 volt power source up to the cigarette lighter and use that to open the boot?

darn, i was hoping there was a simpler way than climbing into the boot!

ciggie lighter - that's an idea. unfortunately i don't have one of those ciggie-to-ciggie starters on hand. AA is coming out in a few minutes frown

f*g batteries. just noticed in the service history, that one the previous owners called out recovery several times (in a year) for a flat battery!

all i did was alarm up the car last night. now i know why it went off for 10s in the middle of the night .. guess it's too late by then.

thx chaps.

Sometimes as they get older the glovebox doesnt quite close properly, which not only can trigger the alarm if it eases open by a mm setting off the trigger as the switch opens, but also the glovebox light stays on now it thinks it is open and this will drain your battery overnight, especially if it is already weak.

It's quite common for the glove box light to stay on as the door doesn't fully depress the switch which results in battery drain over a period.

You can connect a 12v power source to the lighter socket.

Or, the way I do it, is climb into the boot and at the back of the boot, near the center, move the carpet down, and there's a wire loop to pull to unlatch the boot, and open it manually.

climb across into the bootspace, then flick the two catches manually (they have alever on them), you dont need any elecrical feed they will release manually. I did it afew times in my S2

tAppreciatew you're sorted but just in case - The 968 has a steel cable pull cord in the back - just under the carpet - mid-way across the back. This will release the tailgate - takes quite a tug tho!
