996 Bluetooth/Ipod/USB Options
Discussion
Tomorrow I pick up a 996 turbo , I'm just wondering what my options are for bluetooth handsfree and mp3 audio.
In MY RR Sport I have a parrot mki9200 which I like, I fitted it myself (despite being told by many professional installers that it was not possible to put that kit into my model RR) so am happy to fit something to the 996 myself but I don't just know if I want a parrot kit with the little auxiliary screen in the porsche.
The car is a 2002 but looks like MY2003 going on the VIN number so I guess its the MOST system. I've been looking at the dension kit as I would really like either a USB or SD Card option but I don't know how well that will integrate with the standard porsche head unit (no sat nav) and the dension seems to have quite a large price tag.
What to you guys use/recommend?

I wonder how easy it would be to retrofit PCM to the car...
Don't bother - it will cost you a fortune and still be crap. If you're willing to change the head unit, fit something much more modern that does everything.Incidentally, according to their on comparability tables, both the mObridge and Dension 500 Lite will also work with the CDR23 and CDR24 - you just get less control.

I could be talking out of turn since I dont have the car yet to check this out but surely changing the head unit would mean losing the bose amp since its all done with fibre optic right?tezza77 said:

Is that a problem? Never been a fan of Bose stuff.I recently had a new head unit (Alpine CDA-117) and speakers fitted in my 964 at my local car audio specialist, and the result has been a revelation. It cost me £750. With a decent head unit, and the right speakers, and external amp isn't really necessary.

Why do you say this ? (I am sure you have explained this before.. )
Yes I have spoken about it before on a couple of threads on here, these are my issues:http://web6.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=96...
Here are other people's issues:

Mobridge must also think that there system is fully developed, as they haven't released a firmware update for 12-18 months at least that I know of. Given all of the issues surrounding these units I think it is very poor.
I fitted a Dension Gateway Lite into my Cayman with CDR24 & Bose and it worked perfectly. Good control over the i-pod and retained the use of the Bose amp. Couldn't fault it. I fitted it myself with the help of some very useful photos and step by step instructions I found online.
I bought it from i-pod car kit direct if that helps - about £150 IIRC
Edited to change price - i have inflationary tendencies!

For the most part, I find the standard system sounds fine, I just need the ability to play MP3 and have bluetooth handsfreeI recently had a new head unit (Alpine CDA-117) and speakers fitted in my 964 at my local car audio specialist, and the result has been a revelation.
