3.8 RS - 458 Italia. Crazy or inspired?

Hi. This isn't a dreaded value post so please bear with me: I have a high spec mint 2011 Grey/Red 3.8 RS which I have found has risen somewhat in value over the past couple of years! This is bonus as I didn't buy the car as an investment so in many ways it makes no difference to me until I sell the car which hasn't been on the agenda... Yet.
But what this price rise has meant is that the cost of an equivalent age 458 has converged with the 3.8 RS. While the 3.8 RS is amazing and I truly love the car like I have no other car to date, I've always also hankered after a 458 which, until recently, have been in a different price category. So I am toying with the idea of moving from the 3.8 RS to a 458....
The 3.8 RS is a super car with loads of character so am a little nervous the 458 will feel anodyne in comparison when the initial euphoria has settled down.
So here is the question: has anyone moved from a 3.8 RS to a 458 or vice versa? Any thoughts on whether I'm making a crazy decision?! Any thoughts very welcome!

chalk and cheese. Both great cars but the 458 is not as visceral as the GT3RS. The 458 is epic on the limit though, just not as 'plugged' in as the GT3.
Now, what you need to consider, and I know youre not interested in price etc but, the 458 is going down and the GT3rs is going up in price, this gives you a massively exaggerated hit on price.
Say the GT3RS is worth £170k in three years time (not saying it will but) and the 458 is worth £90k, which is highly likely, that's a hit of £80k in three years!
Keep it, it'll never be repeated, as Im sure you've been told.

As it stands, I only have a basic 997.1 GT3 and there is not another car out there that interests me.
The fact that the GT3 is going up in value is a bonus
Personally would never do it unless you truly have to scratch the 458 itch. Looks/Ferrari history etc aside, the RS is IMO a decent amount better when judged purely on the driving aspects of the cars. It steers better, is better under braking and has much more chassis feel, more 'plugged in' for lack of a better word.
I've considered it - tho it was to a Speciale, however after a few half days with one - I found it annoying: I don't need exhaust theatricals, and if I closed my eyes and thought back to the drives - sound aside - I could have been in anything. Perhaps I'm a big Porsche fan & not enough of a Ferrari fan to make the switch.
Driving the 3.8 - there's little else like it - steering, gear changes, noise, usability - for me it's a far superior car to drive.

Remarkably similar ....Speciale did not persuade ....elected to keep powder dry for 991 GT3 RSDriving the 3.8 - there's little else like it - steering, gear changes, noise, usability - for me it's a far superior car to drive.

I think that the only footnote is that given that they are crossing prices - should you decide to take the plunge, going back the other way is likely to at some point stop being an option. Simply put - they have made rather more 458s and are still making them, so rarity comes into play. Anecdotally the ownership costs remain in different tiers too. So if you do go ahead with a swap : be very sure. But as for whether you should, I would contend that it is a very personal decision for you to make.
Have you driven the 458 ? Unlike a Mclaren for example I believe you will kno whether you want it within minutes of you starting out. I owned my 3.8rs from new for 3 years and over 22k miles. In fact it must still be one of the highest mileage cars out there. I did most UK tracks, Monza, imola, spa, the ring and even drove to Ibiza in the thing. Turning up to blue marlin in a blue and gold r's was unforgettable. Anyway I digress.
I live in London and to be honest the Porsche was becoming a pain in the arse dispute the lifting nose. In the end I got restless and bought a 12 italia. 1 year old with 2k miles. At the time the idea of keeping hold of the porsche as well seemed a little flash and my heart was set on the ferrari. Looking back at it now I probably should have kept the car....however only for the reason it has virtually doubled since the price I sold it for only 14 months ago.
That said in only one year I have put 12k miles on to the italia. I have not taken it in track, never intended to. Instead I drove through france down to cannes and St tropez, route Napolian and had a whale of a time....early morning jaunts in the summer like London to brighton in time for breakfast. It's a truely epic car that can be used every day, is miles faster than the gt3 and offers 90% of the feel and feedback. I can tell you this, if I still had the gt3 there would be very few times I would be hunting for its keys over the 458's.
However... When I saw the speciale it did not take me long to come round to it. My car arrives in around 6 weeks at such point the italia will be up for sale. I also have a deposit for the 991 rs. I'm sure it's unlikley I'll get one, but with the pdk it will be so much more drivable, last of the n/a a keeper.
The italia is much more focused than most give it credit for. It is a very fast bmw m3 csl. Light and razor sharp. The noise it makes is more exciting than the Porsches and there is a sense of drama even my blue and gold porsche can not meet. So in hindsight I should have kept it as I would be a bit richer... If the tables hadn't turned I wouldn't have given a hoot.
Imv it might be a great time to get out....but you must drive it first and make sure it's for u.

Personally I would not be doing that. Who's to say it will rise in price much further if at all....or come back down. It's entirley possible today's price is extraordinary.
