997 Warranty and Track Days
Discussion
Its a difficult one to answer - Porsche maintian that their warranty does cover track usage but I have heard of some cases where track use was used as an argument not to pay the full amount.
I had a big warranty issue last year and the OPC admitted they spent a lot of time looking for any reason not to pay the claim. They couldn't find anything so the warranty was paid and there were no questions asked if the car had been used on track (which it had - a lot!).
What they would look for are signs of abuse - mechanical over-revs etc (i.e. selecting 3rd gear instead of 5th and hitting 11,000rpm). One other thing which would invalidate the warranty on a 997 would be using slick tyres - as the engine is not dry sumped like the GT cars.
