Looks like Porsche denying me my 911 GTS - so disappointed
Discussion
Having ordered my new 991.2 GTS convertible early last November, my Porsche Centre are now saying I may not get my car.
I'm so disappointed, they tell me Porsche are ceasing the 991.2 build in June and gearing up for the new model. But why did they take my deposit and lead me along ? They have offered me a Targa due to a customer cancellation but i didn't particularly want a Targa. Should I take it ? or am I being lead along the garden path ?

Isn’t the targa about 130kg heavier than the coupe?
Surely that must be very noticeable and blunt the experience.
I would contact all the other OPC in a large radius and see what they come up.
You’d definitely notice it but it’s one of the good things about the new turbo engine...torque deals much better with the weightSurely that must be very noticeable and blunt the experience.

Sorry to hear this OP, did your OPC give you any indication of build and delivery times when you ordered?
I have been made aware of the factory shutdown since I ordered my GTS but I don’t fully understand what the implications will be.
It does seem strange that some late GT3 allocations have been made as these surely will push other builds back - I may have got that completely wrong though

Update: I went to the dealer and they tell me they are hardly getting any 911's through right now, my GTS order might materialize in September but it's not certain. I called another dealer who says theres little chance of them getting a new GTS now. I took a good look at a base used Targa and it is really very nice, looks good, special even, we went for a drive with the roof stowed and its fine, very little wind buffeting and it was - well a 911 & therefore superb. Upon checking the used values of targa GTS cars I find dealers are actually asking around 10k to 13k above list price right now for 17 & 67 plate cars. So I switched my order an I'm expecting a shiny new GTS targa early April, all happy again

I was offered a 3 month old Targa 4 GTS at my local OPC that was supposedly £125k new and was selling for £113k. Are they bailing out before the new one? It was in primer grey Crayon which is a bit personal for my liking *blurgh*
New Targa GTS is probably three years away so I doubt it. The 991.1 Targa GTS was only made in very limited volumes because it was released quite late in the 991.1's life.....it's probably has the best residuals of any 911 outside a GT car. That's a pretty good discount on a three month old car. It's on their website if anyone's interested, just with no price against it. They also have a nice carmine red GTS .2 Cabriolet for about £115k too which was sitting next to it the other day. That's more my preference, but will have to wait until April before I pull the trigger!

Interesting that exactly the same thing happened to me last week.
Deposit paid last July for estimated delivery Feb/March, on a GTS cabriolet, then got a call last week that my car would no longer be available, BUT I could also have a Targa instead.
However I was told that production will stop in March and resume in September, and if I wanted I could wait until September/October for delivery.
I looked at the Targa, but decided that after waiting for 6 months for the car I had specced, I would rather consider my alternatives. Deposit was returned by the OPC within 48hours. I thought it was a strange thing to happen, but now I see I am not the only one.
Strange though that there is plenty of availability for Targa models.

Seems like the rarity of the Targa will be undone. Meanwhile I would not want all that extra weight high up on my car. I would rather buy a used 991.1 convertible and be happy.
Weight distribution makes a HUGE difference to the handling of a car. Yesterday I transported 60 small 50cl bottles of Volvic in my GT4. I deliberately put all 60 bottles the rear trunk of my car, rather than half up front and half in the back. The car was not overloaded, but the weight distribution was all screwed up. Car felt bad: vague steering, understeer, slow response. Transformed the car from a scalpel that I love driving into a sack of spuds. Thankfully sans Volvic the car feels ace again.
I know that the comparison to the Targa is not quite the same, but the point being that the changes in vehicle dynamics - besides how fast it goes in a straight line - are very tangible.
