Track day suitable tyre recmendations ?

Ok chaps what do ya recomend ? I'm currently running an early 80's 944 running 15" cookie cutters. On my recent outing to Hethel my current tyres seemed to over heat within a matter of 6-8 laps, leading to some rather undesirable effects.
So what does make a good road/track compromise for the 44 ?

From expereince, Goodyear NCT Eagle on a '44. But I'm sure Pirelli PO and Bridgestone S02 would be more than suitable.

Have a word with EMC Motorsport re: the tyres they run on the 944 race cars (also on 15" Cookies) it one of the road legal race tyres, but i cant remember which one - (dunlop i think but dont quote me)

Ig how much do you want for the wheels and tyres, sadly they are no good for the track as they are much much heavier then the cookie cutters but i have always liked the look of them

One of the 944's secret weapons for trackday use is that with the seats down, you can fit a spare set of wheels with full race slicks in the boot. I bought a set of 16" from Silverline tyres in Warwick for only £85 each. Much cheaper than road tyres, they don't overheat and they last ages.....10 trackdays so far for mine.

Oh I forgot to say to you your wagon was looking mighty good on its fuch's on sunday, get the spokes polished in a 911 style & it would look ace- not many 944s run fuches anymore & I think they look top banana on them.
Agreed I do like the fuch's but want an alternative for winter running, and hate the look of cookie cutters, hence your teledials.
My fuch's need shot blasting and re-powder coating etc, and yes I was thinking about having the faces polished when i get them done.
Anyone know a good wheel restorer

I have noted that some of the 944 racers will drive round the outside of other cars on slicks using these tyres so I reckon they would definately be worth a try

We use Colway retreads in the Porsche 924 series on 15" rims. The tyres are an intermediate compound and last well, they are also pretty cheap at around £50 per corner for a 205-50-15.

Watched you guys at anglesey a couple of years ago, and the tyre smoke you all kicked up on school bend as you went onto the apex with the backends out at about 30 degrees lap after lap was fantastic....

Currently at most circuits the 944's are only a fraction quicker than the 924's and they have yet to get their own series? (currently running in the super coupe cup)
The 924's I would say is at present the better bet as the grids are always around the 20 car mark, and all the cars are equal. But give it a couple of years, and with the cost of building a 944 racer coming down all the time I'm sure it will have its day.

Main reason for looking at the 944's is a) i drive one every day, on almost identical suspension and with the shame engine mods, so I know I would enjoy racing one.... But also i know where there is a pre-built car going for 4.5k
