Am picking up the new MOD-mobile on Saturday morning - a 993 TT.

Have been looking for one for a while now, and riding in the TT's belonging to Adam, DeR, and Daz at Brunters sealed it for me.....such a whole package.

I tried to buy a few TT's prior to this one and either the car had been sold, or I fell out with the snotty OPC sales person!

Ended up getting the 96P speed yellow (52k miles) one the OPC in Newcastle had for sale. The OPC kindly printed off the original order sheet for the car, so the features that had been specified over standard could be seen:

1) Yellow leather to seats as per owners sample

2) Sports seats

3) Leather to instrument rings

4) Leather surround to switches

5) Carbon dashboard

6) Al / carbon handbrake and gear lever

7) X50 430 engine upgrade

8) Sound system upgrade

9) Front air inlets / parking lights

10) Air inlets to rear wings

11) Y75 Aerokit kit II

12) Cruise control

13) Top tinted windscreen

14) Sun roof

The test drive was great; I took the wheel after the sales chap did a demo first...I initially thought it wasn't that quick when I booted it in 2nd. But when the needle went past 3, 000 revs the car took off, and quite scared me to be honest. It did the same in 3rd after which I bottled out and eased up, it felt so planted and secure throughout the antics. Never experienced anything like it before. The noise is addictive too, and it felt quite strange hearing and feeling the engine rorting away behind me instead of up front. The original owner put some kind of sports exhaust on; the service chaps are going to find out exactly what type is installed.

After trying a few OPC's, who were rude, slow, and patronising, the Newcastle OPC made a pleasant change with their quick, and straight talking service. They are selling the 993 on behalf of the owner who has taken a GT2 from them, the work to be done (or has been done very recently) to the car before I get it on Saturday is:

1) Front end respray (had to be done before the OPC would display it)

2) Full service

3) New pads and discs all round

4) New alarm system

5) Two new back tyres

6) New front top strut mounts

So am very, very excited about getting it, the nanoseconds are passing very slowly indeed. Brunters should be great fun.

Will upload the pictures the OPC sent me whe I first enquired about it tomorrow.

Hooray

Martyn.

Thank you for the kind words. I have uploaded a couple of photos:

The original owner had a GTS badge put on the rear, his line of thinking was it has the GT body kit and the S spec engine.....but I have asked for the badge to be replaced with a black turbo inscription.

Forgot to say last night in my excitement that the car has a half roll cage too.

Will upload some more photos tonight when I get home.

Best Regards

Just got back to the office, some more photos:

I must admit when the OPC first sent me the pictures down initially I thought the wheels looked a little 'Pimp my Ride'. But in the flesh they look awesome; the black centres contrasting with the bodywork very well. I also really like the air intakes for the intercooler in the rear wing.

I was again dubious about the interior, but in the flesh again I think it looks fab. Think I will have to jazz up my wardrobe to coordinate with the yellow everywhere inside....maybe Burriana500 could give me some fashion tips

Have sent you an e-mail trooper1212.

Adam, will gladly take you out, would love a ride in the CTR too you if you could.

Only 64 hours to go!!!!

Best Regards

Been back about an hour after leaving at 8am this morning with the chim, and doing an extended route home from Newcastle in the 993 of 250 miles......should be about 110 miles

What can I say.......I didn't realise that this level of total hoonage was accessible to an average driver like me. The thing is totally, utterly, and completely mind blowing. The grip and composure is immense, and it inspires a lot of confidence even though I have only done so few miles in it.

I have learnt to keep the boot down through corners, I lifted slightly through a fast corner and the back waggled a bit.....hopefully lesson learnt.

Think I will have to keep myself disciplined and somewhat restrained in the Porker, or else I fear I'll get pulled at speeds resulting in more time inside than Gary Glitter.

Have been looking through the owners pack, and came across invoices for work carried out. It turns out it has a sports exhaust from Tech 9, though it doesn't say exactly what make / type....will contact them Monday to find out the craic. The car also has the Tech 9 cat conversion what ever that may be? I assume it means 100 cell race cats or something? I do know that the exhaust makes an obscene, very loud bellow when the turbos kick in.

Comparing it to the TVR; initially I thought the TVR feels faster, it does....but the 911 goes faster. On familiar roads where as from a standing start in the Tiv I would be doing 60 by a certain point, the Porker is going over 80 mph. The Porker seems to make a mockery of speed it seems. Though I must admit to being very, very sad to turn the Tiv off for the last time when I parked it up at the OPC this morning, hope she goes to a good home.

Sorry for the convoluted post, my head is still in bits after driving it home to be honest.

Best Regards

Thanks for the comments. Have recovered from yesterday after a good nights sleep.

Look forward to seeing your car UV, I had seen on the list that a Turbo 2 was coming and didn't know who's it was.

After a few Stella's last night , I must confess to opening the garage up and just sitting in the car and also stroking the bodywork....sad but true!

The exhaust is a Techart system. I laid down under the car in my Artois'd state and managed to find the Techart marking on a pipe. Will ring T9 tomorrow with the product code to ascertain what type it is.

All it is short of now is a PH sticker of some kind, will see to that ASAP Ted!

Best Regards

Yes, she was loaded onto a flat-bed truck this morning....random warning lights were lighting up on the dash. I'd stop, turn the engine off, and everything would be back to normal. So sent it back for fettling.....though wasn't going to post the probs up till I knew what was up with her for sure. The 'check engine' light kept lighting up too; the OPC tech man thinks it could be a lambda (sp?) sensor breaking down?

The car has been parked up a fair while so I understand prior to me getting it, and I was thinking something might go wrong....and it did.

Had a great drive with Rich (Ruxpin) yesterday, the thing is a real savage. The problems stated above occurred on the way home

The Porker Assist help line did a great job; I phoned them at 9:30am and was waving the truck away before 11:30am.

Hope the car's spot at Brunters isn't jeopardised

Yours in hope

If its not back in time, I would probably still go....but a Shogun wouldn't put much of a fight on the strip

Will be finding out what the problem is this morning. Even if parts have to come from Germany, I think there is enough time for them to fix the car's seemingly confused ECU or whatever is up with her.......hopefully.

Yours in joyous hope

Thanks for that Alan, I had thought some part of the emission control system was playing up.

Had yours been parked up a while prior to you getting it like mine?

Thanks

Update: The car was just being driven to the transporter at the OPC to bring it back to me this morning, and the ABS + ABD light came on again.....turns out it is a sticking relay as well as the chaffed wire shroud they initially thought was the problem. The part is arriving tomorrow morning, so should have the car back by the end of the day.

The 'check engine' light was caused by a sticking wastegate actuator on the right hand turbo, which they have fixed.

Luca Brazzi has kindly agreed to host a short video that Ruxpin filmed on Saturday as I left his house in the banana talking Mrs. Ruxpin for a blast. Should have the link up tomorrow.
