So, the UK Government seems still fairly fixed on phasing out FM radio broadcasts in the coming years, and here we have Porsche introducing yet another new model which cannot be specified with DAB Digital Radio.. C'mon.. Just about everybody offers that as an option these days.. I even get it for free on Hyundai rental cars in the USA..

How many folks will think twice about buying a car on the 2nd hand market in a few year's time that does not have a functional radio.. ?

Its not going to be your GT3's and GT2's and RS's and the like that will be affected.. I suspect that there will be a market for them regardless.. It'll be the bulk market Carreras, Carerra S's, Turbos.. and Panameras and Boxsters and Caymans and Cayennes.. The (what do you reckon) 80%? 90%? of stock moving out of showrooms now...

Since it's not here now, I suspect that an upgrade to DAB will now come (if ever) with the next itteration of PCM.. Which, on past experience, will come with 991 Gen 2..

So, what, 4? 5? years.. Some estimates had the UK Government turning off the FM transmisions before then..!!!!

Food for thought..????

The other point being that if they turn off the FM transmissions then the TMS signals may be lost, thus wiping out the additional functionality of our PCM SatNav's to allow for traffic delays etc..

Yes, I am disappointed that the 991 doesn't have DAB. It's all I listen to in the Range Rover and when I get into a car without it I get bored senseless by Radio 1, 2 and Chavital.

Mind you, DAB signal is way patchy - like analogue was in the 60s and 70s.
Thinking about it, when I said that the Hyundai rentals in the states had digital, they did, but from a satellite, not a terrestrial DAB transmitter.. You could hold onto the stations however far you drove, with a pretty constant quality..
