Season opener for many of us… and once again cheers to the organisers… you know who you are.

Dry day, but cold temps and green circuit made for an interesting’ morning!!

Few big stoppages, lots of cars and with some people still not understanding the difference between quick driver and fast car.
But overall pace of the day was quite good.

Personally was getting used to the new car and the new setup, once up to speed, I was able to take quite a big step in pace and improvement in my PB and also consistency so good start to the season for me.

Nice to meet up with familiar face and new ones.

Hopefully pics and videos will start to filter through soon.

Obligatory pics and video…

Not the greatest laps… have reverted to some mistakes I had been making with apexing too early for some corners… killing speed and also gear selection… can hold 3rd for some corners where I shift to 2nd and hold 4th for some where I downshift unnecessarily into 3rd.

Nice videos T. Is that a Garmin you’ve got now? I need one!

My unsolicited advice: smile

4th for lakeside keeps the car much more stable than downshifting, but it’s still a balls corner and I can’t commit enough, personally.

Full throttle until you hit the Eccles Cakes for Brittens and Druids.

Bit later turning in at Cascades makes a massive difference to the speed you can carry all the way to Island

Finally, with those STs you can brake way later, especially into Lodge and Old Hall.

Dave came back from a spin round with you wearing a massive grin. I reckon he spent all weekend reading about Manthey goodies. Let’s get a few laps together next time. I miss my GT4!
Cheers for the feedback P.

Unfortunately I had reverted/regressed in a number of area as you highlight vs my last outing at OP in April…

Chiefly staying in 4th for lakeside and island… I saw my min speed was more than 10mph down here vs last year in the old car… so that’s just free time. I had gotten comfortable with just keeping it balanced.. but seemed to forget all about that when driving the lap.

Squaring these corners off like you mentioned is something I really need to work on. Later apex, square it and flat on throttle…

Dave and I were lucky to get the final laps.. out lap, flying and in lap, lol… not really enough to get an impression maybe, and a couple seconds off my fastest lap of that day.

As for equipment, yep, I took the plunge with the Garmin Catalyst. I’ve been researching for probably 6 months… and it works in the way I would do my own data analysis… tbf..the day was so busy i had no time to go through the opportunities, or the coaching…. But at the very least was good to have a reliable display up showing red or green.. this helped me to stay more focussed and that yielded better consistency with each session.

I’ll do a proper write up/post at some point.

This is all very interesting and very useful ...

I find myself wondering now if I really need to run that kerb so hard ... but I still like to know where I should be leaning on the car much more smile

Of course a racing driver would be pushing the car until it slid, but that's no longer me ...

Controlling wear (and cost) whilst having fun is my way forward ... and yes, the last part of the day was the best !!
I just personally don't feel like riding the top of that kerb at the 1st chicane is really that beneficial to me.... I don't want to risk the car in that way even though its now built to take it... its my current pride and joy.. so just doesn't feel particularly mechanically sympathetic, still a road car, not a race car.
I know that I have far more time to gain in maximising the other corners... so happy to sacrifice this one, as there are no prizes lol.
