The day has finnaly arrived, collected the 911 turbo. The second 911 and realy not sure if I like it ....

Is it
The most docile super car ? ie, you can run around town in top, its not quick if you use the turbo but just brisk.

or is it the most useless torque band ever on a car since the invention of 2 stroke cars ? How on earth do you keep them on the boil ? Am I doing some thing wrong ? are they all or nothing or do i need a hybrid turbo to cut down the lag and having to rev it so hard to get decent boost ? saying that when it hits 4000 rpm and the boost gauge hits full it pulls harder than any car ive ever been in, is that I wonder what there all about ?

250 miles today...mostly in the wet....

so far the car is standard, looking at new sports exhaust, uprated turbo and dump valve. Main Idea is to make it more drivable rather than more HP. If I could get both even beter..any ideas on what to go for ?
pics to follow at the week end.

Just when things are going well.....

Clutch pedel started to be hard to press, then no clutch. The omega ring had come lose due to the bolt that holds the carrier coming out. Put it all back on and now the clutch cabel is around 1 inch too long and also the `helper` spring on the pedel had snaped.
orderd new cabel and spring today. Hope thats all thats wrong as I cant see how the cabel can have streched that much in such a short time unless its because the omega ring when it came adrift was stopping the cluch lever from moving by getting traped between the cluch arm and the heat exchanger and aS i was pressing the cluch pedel it was rock solid as the omega spring had jamed the lever.
Hope this dosnt turn out to be another saga like the Merak clutch...one new cluch, refaced fly wheel and a new cluch housing and a £3k bill later all seems fine...

I would say good ones very much are collectors cars. If not what makes a collectors or classic car ?
I do see both points as to upgrading. As I said in my post more than greater HP I would like the car to be more drivable, with less turbo lag. At the moment the turbo seems to be fine but its done 80k miles and wont last for ever and if I have to fit a new turbo would it not make more sence to fit a more modern one ? Same for the exhaust, luckly the car has s/steel heat exchangers but still has a steel exhaust. Form past exsperiance with cars that are not used daily they dont last five mins, so a s/steel sports exhaust has got to be sensable.
I do tend to use my cars quite a lot and the more drivable they are the more I`ll use it. For me its all about my enjoyment and if Its a pain to drive ( I dont all together dislike the all or nothing boost)chances are I`ll just use the CSL or Maserati instead.

Most of my cars are standard and any mods are normaly made to keep originality. With my old CSL the engine has done 80k miles and with care full use it would last another 80k. I decided in that case to build up a race spec 3.5 based on a strengthnd m6 bottom end running a big vave 12 valve head. The reason being that I thrash the t*ts off it and the 3.5 can stand it beter. If ever I want to sell the car all I would do is repace the original engine and the car would be original.
The Rolls Royce needed new springs and shockers and Harvey Baily handling kits are around 30% cheaper that the original Rolls Royce shocks and springs and the Ride and Handling is fAR better.
All my other cars are standard (except the sevo on the E-type, any one who keeps the original would need there heads testing). I must admit I am more inclined to keep the Turbo standard but a quick spooling turbo dose seem the best option and quite tempting.

Getting to grips with it know.... New cluch cable and helper spring is now fitted, all the pedles adjusted so there in the place that suits me. I have also replaced alot of hose clips and it turbo spools a lot beter and quicker. About the only job left to do for know is to replace the exhaust Balance pipe as its blowing and I dont think that will help the turbo lag.
Nest job is going to be to be new brake caliper seals and pad all round...

I Looked at loads b4 this one, then purchased this one unseen on E-Bay.Spoke to the company that used to service it,and the guy that was selling seemed very honset and it had full history. I think I found a bargin and with what I paid for it ,it left a couple of grand margin incase it needs a bigish spend. So far all I can find is front brakes could do with a service (maybe due to lack off use) and a cross over pipe on the exhaust is blowing (new s/steel one came with the car) and i have also had to put a new cluch cable on. The sunroofs a bit sticky (wind deflector dosnt always drop) but other than that its great. The PO had spent around £5k in the 3 years and the guy b4 that had the gearbox rebuild along with a new cluch (4k miles ago). Its always been run on Mobil 1 and leaks or burns no oil. There are a few stone chips but no body rot at all.
so far so good, even took me and the family to Nottingham today and we won 1-0.
