Y-reg vs 51-reg 996tt Prices
Discussion
A friend who is looking for a 996tt says that he has noticed a significant difference in price between Y-reg and 51-reg 996tt's when comparing virtually identicle cars. Even where mileage, condition, service history, colour etc, etc are almost the same and even if the Y-reg is an Aug-01 and the 51-reg is Sep-01 the 51-reg is always more expensive than the difference in age would justify.
I told him that 51-reg and later cars have the upgraded interior (Glove Box, Rain Sensitive Wipers, Auto Dimming Mirrors, anything else?) and this coupled with the 'new style' plate may be the reason.
Any other ideas?

I think the rain sensitive wipers are a great addition to the newer cars - I don't think that I would have spec'd them if given the choice previously but now that I drive a car with them, I would. I also think the earlier cars look odd without a glovebox and with the little storage rack under the steering wheel for the owners manual instead.
Back to the original question, my friend went for a 51-reg in the end. He said he didn't care whether the plate said Y or 51 but he prefered the better spec of the post Aug-01 cars. He said that new interior (with glovebox) and Bose as standard were important factors for him. He picks the car up on Friday: Black on black, 51-reg, 22k miles, immaculate, manual, £56k.
