Front end respray - 964
Discussion
Finally got around to getting the front end resprayed on the 964 – had I though about doing a photo diary earlier I’d have taken some more comprehensive before & after as the transformation is fantastic!
Bit of background – my 964 used to belong to 'Scottster' on here, and I bought it earlier this year in a mechanically sound but cosmetically ‘challanged’ state –
The bonnet had been sprayed badly in the past and was pitted and faded to a lovely shade of pink. There were some monster stone chips (badge of honour for a car that had been spanked round the Nurburgring on at least one occasion...)
There was some corrosion at the base of the rear screen which I had sort a few months back, but the engine lid had been keyed and touched up in a slightly mismatched shade of Guards (India) Red…nice!
To cap it all off when the paintshop cut out and refinished the rust bubble, their low tack tape took and inch long patch of lacquer off the engine lid
So – the long and short of it is that there was a fair bit of work to do.
Following a round of local garages and a few questions on here and rennlist, I took the car to Kingscourt Coachworks in Chessington - John the owner recommended a bare metal job on the bonnet and the wings blended over the top - I was slightly wary at first about their ability to blend the colour over a comparitively small panel (red being notoriosly difficult to match well) - but the results speak for themself - suffice to say I'm chuffed - for those who are interested here are some of the pics:
Front end stripped:
Primed:
front PU:
masked up:
rear end masked:
front after paint:

Sent the pics to Scottster and he says hi, looks great...
Also, he says do you want the cheap personal plate that was (or was about to be put) on it for a nominal sum?
LOL
D
May well do - once my wallet has recovered from it's recent shoeing! - would suit the new rejuvinated look of the car...
you dont know of a good source of low cost teardrop mirrors do you? (ebay thing fell through recently)
the though of spending 500 odd quid on such inconsequential items irks a little...
