Check engine light - 996TT

A friend of mine had this light come on whilst driving along today.
I know its impossible to diagnose whats the problem, but knowing how bullitt proof the 996TT's seem to be, has anyone here had the check engine light come on & if so what was the fault ? Is there any "common" faults that could trip the light (MAF ? other sensors etc)

Any thoughts would be helpful. Its being looked at tomorrow by a dealer but a quick diagnosis is needed !

Will pass this on, no as far as I am aware he hasn't tried this.
Would the sensors need replacing (I guess so) and if it was the Lambda sensors will it be OK to drive it?
