hi guys,

bit of soul searching advice please..

i've had my 996tt for a few months now and love it. it's everything i hope for in a car and more BUT i've also put my own stamp on each of the cars i've owned from little subtle things to engines conversions except the porsche.

I've done various searches since owning the porsche and i'm trying desperately to be content with the car as it is but i'm struggling.

here's a brief list of my thoughts..
1. I would love to change the exhaust buy worried over potential OPC warranty issues.
2. change the wheels to sporttechno ones but can't justify 2k for porsche ones and worried over sub 1k for copies.
3. thinking about subtle changes to the interior - alloy look hazard surround, ignition surround, set of the alloy look circles for the speedo and guages.

Shile i know someone will post that it's my car and i should do what i want etc etc and that's 100% true i'm worried over making a clean and tidy turbo look like a max power advert and potentially scaring off potential buyers in a few years time.

so what's the excepted 'done thing' if there is one??? not being anal just don't want to spoil what is an amazing car but i do want to make it feel more mine if that makes sense???

thanks in advance
Rick

totally agree.

i would never do anything to this car that could not be turned back very easily.

what have other owners done to put theri own stamp on their cars?

Get the ecu upgraded Rick, transforms the car and makes it much more entertaining, next move for me is a new pipe im just not sure which one yet...ECU upgrade in theory is not detectable by the OPC's so should be ok on the warranty.Having said that if an experienced Porsche mechanic cant tell a chipped tt from a standard one on a road test i would be very suprised..do standard tt's hit 1 bar?

hi mate, the performance is the main thing i'm happy with. i doubt on uk roads my licence would last long if it was any quicker. perhaps when i've owned the car a couple of years i might be bored and want more then at the moment it's more visually that i want to put my stamp on.

nah, i specifically wanted a non-aero kit car.

it's got to be wheels, exhaust or interior for me. even started thinking about adding porsche logos to the frong wings to match a few porsches i saw a few years back but decided against it. stickers are a busmans holiday for me...

hadn't thought of that. the whole airbag would make it expensive to change and then change around but worth a look thanks for the input.

I would have thought getting the thing to sound better would be near top of mosts lists, I heard good things about these for 996tt sports boxes:

tubi
techart
cargraphic

changing the exhaust was top of my wish list but asking posting on hear and speaking to my opc i am worried over potential opc warranty issues. basically from what i';ve been told IF the exhaust led to something going wrong OPC would not cover that item. i do however (and would) love to stand corrected if anyone know's better.

as for dms / ecu upgrades - i like most owners i imagine only explore a fraction of the tt's potential on road and track days don't take my fancty anymore. i used to do max 3 per month in my elise a couple of years back.

I'd put money on Porsche GB being able to spot any massaged ECU, I can probably arrange a trial if anyone is interested and convinced they can beat the Porsche full ecu diagnostics system?

that does sound intetesting..

send 3 cars up all tt's all same years and have 1 with a dms or likewise upgrade and see what they find but without road testing the cars...

trying to get back onto topic here guys -

do most people leave alone or personalise the P&J? (excluding ecu mod's)
