Hi guys, not a porsche officianado, but I saw one which interested me yesterday and I thought I would elicit some advice.

As i was driving through a local (Belgiam) town I saw a 993 speedster, so I stopped at the garage and had a look at it. I have to say the car looked absolutely stunning. It was in Black, lhd, with 86,000km (53K miles) on the clock. Interior was also in black leather, and it was sitting on some serious rubber but I have to admit I did not look what it was. I could see all the disks were drilled and red porsche callipers in place.

Talking to the owner he said it was a 1986 car and that porsche had never produced a 993 speedster so this was a non-factory conversion, but that all original parts had been used. He also quoted it as being a very rare car (I have never seen another one) and was asking €40K for it (about 28GBP).

So what should I look for on the car, if I decide I am interested? What is the deal with these conversions and who are the reputable converters?? Is it a good price and what about residuals, I am guessing after 17 years most of the depreciation is over and it may even begin to appreciate. How saleable would it be down the line and are these cars generally accepted by porsche officianados, or do they tend to be hard to move??

I never got to drive it, but any comments on what to expect performance wise?? (I think he said it was 3.6 or 3.7 litre engine)

Sorry for the lack of details, but I can always go back there next weekend and ask more and take some snaps if it seems worth it

Thanks in advance

From what he said, it was not a factory speedster but a 993 which had been made in to speedster look. it definately had the 993 front end, but not being very knowledgeable about the marque, I cant say much more, althought the guy selling said that the 993 began in 84?? is that right or is he talking BS??

Unfortunately I cant get back there until next Saturday, but I will do and I will post some pictures of it, I think he said it was based on a turbo floorpan, but I am not sure.

It had the 993 front end and the low roof line of a speedster and the 2 cowls on the softop cover (although I did not see the roof down)
