My new X50 arrives 1st March and in anticipation I have been looking at exhaust options. One of the more popular choices, at least in the States, appears to be the Europipe Stage II in "Loud" or "Quiet" form. Today I e-mailed Europipe with a few questions :-

Dear Sir,

I am soon to take delivery of a new Porsche 911 Turbo complete with factory fitted X50 450BHP power kit and am most interested in your 996 TT Stage 2 Exhaust System. I have some questions for you :-

1 - Is this exhaust suitable for the X50 equipped TT?
2 - If so, is the power and torque increase +18HP/+19ft.lbs that you quote for the standard TT or is it more?
3 - Is the performance identical between Stage 2 Loud and Quiet?
4 - Are there any other modifications required when this system is fitted such as air filter change?
5 - Can you ship to the UK (where I live) and if so what is the total cost?

Thank you for your attention.

I have just received this reply :-

Thank you for your interest in our exhausts .

1) The exhaust is indeed suitable for the X50 version .

2) The power and torque gains are identical on both the TT / X50 and GT2 .
The X50 and GT2 use larger size turbochargers and therefore have a somewhat larger turbolag compared to the normal 996 Turbo .
With the reduced backpressure of the Stage 2 exhaust the turbolag will almost disappear , especially on the X50 and GT2 models .
Frankly , it is the increased low end torque and better trottle responce you will feel .

3) The stage 2 quiet and louder version are identical performance wise .

4) This is a bolt on modification , no other parts are needed .
The proper tools are included .

5) Here are the prices :

Stage 2 loud / quiet exhaust : € 3320.00
Enlarged dual tailpipes : € 465.00
2 sets of 70 mm exhaust clamps : € 70.00
Total : € 3855.00
UPS shipping to the UK : € 57.00

Prices in Euro without VAT
Belgian VAT is 21 %

Just e-mail me or call if you have other questions .

Sincerely ,

Stef Tourné

So far I'm impressed, and their website - www.europipe.be/1024.html contains lots of information, dyno charts, pictures and videos.

Does anyone have any direct experience of this company, specifically their Stage II exhaust? Is there much difference between the quiet and loud versions?

Any information gratefully received

Darren - Thanks for the information. It certainly confirms that Europipe make a quality product and value customer service.

How could it have been cheaper to drive to Belgium as they quoted just 57 Euros shipping? Did you listen to the Quiet version? I'm all for more exhaust note presence but I'm concerned that the Loud version will become tiresome and intrusive on the motorway.

I was considering this but was told categorically that it would invalidate the Porsche warranty.

Have you spoken to your OPC regarding this, or is it not a problem for you?

Steve

Not spoken to my OPC Steve, but in reality what could they contest? It's only an exhaust change and one that is proven to work without problems.

Just spoke to my OPC regarding warranty and this was their response. If the aftermarket item fitted is likely to have caused the problem then the warranty for the part only affected by the modification is void. They stressed that it was highly unlikely an exhaust change would cause an engine problem and therefore warranty would be unaffected. An ECU change/chipping however was a different matter. They considered it likely that any such modification could be the cause of an engine malfunction and therefore the engine would not be covered. In either case only the rest of the car would still be fully covered.

On that basis I'm happy to take a very small risk that this exhaust could cause a warranty issue. It appears very unlikely and quite frankly, life's too short
