KSV is correct. The gas struts that are used need to be adjustable so if the garage know what they are doing then they should adjust them to the correct pressure and it will not warp the bonnet. Autotech Prestige near Milton Keynes are fairly local to me & were one of the first TVR specialists to start doing them I believe & they've done one for me in the past (since sold) & no problems with bonnet warping. They said they had done lots of these without any problems over the years as long as they are adjusted correctly. The problem I see with Alan Howells kit is that the upstand rods get in the way of doing any work to the engine or at least make the access more difficult. I liked the fact that the gas struts were out of the way & gave you plenty of access room plus they look much better as well. Good luck with whatever you choose.
Hi Guy's Just to verify that the Stainless Steel stays I use on my conversion are very strong so you are able to have the bonnet open on one stay so you can work on the engine without it getting in the way, But to be honest there's no trouble getting under the bonnet with both in use, All I can think is that some people are trying to justify the high price they are paying for their conversion, With me being a retired club member and no overheads I can have my price very low and it keeps me active in my old age. Thanks, Allan.
Right, all set. Allan will be travelling down from parts unknown. Approx 300 miles away. This Sunday but once again I shall be away gain so will miss his expertise. Nice to see him doing two of our Tuscans, and how bizzare, me and Miles have the same colours on our Tuscans. Azzuro Nubola (Alfa Romeo Sky Blue to Gold Pearl)I was told only three were sprayed officially.
Hi Guys, Just a word about the Sag it looks an absolute tremendous car but its in a league of its own it looks like the owner has got the motorised Bonnet vents so for that Bonnet conversion I would think you are looking well into four figures with very little change, But if you look where the stays are they are well in the way of doing anything under the bonnet. My conversions are aimed at people like myself just the ordinary bloke in the street I don't have a bank balance to be able to afford a sag never mind the Bonnet conversion he has had done don't get me wrong i'm in awe of his car. So the Tuscan and the Sag are both completely different cars so you can't compare the Bonnet conversions, However that Sag could be borne out of a Tuscan as there are a few Tuscan Sag conversions about but after spending a lot of money after all it's still a Tuscan,
It shows you my love of TVR's having had 17 now that i'm off to the south coast to do Bonnet conversions for my fellow Tuscan owners, Tuscans being one of the best affordable TVR's (my opinion)
