Helmets will be compulsory,if you have your own helmet obviously bring it. Motor Sport Events should be able to cater for all those that don't own one, but if you think you may be driving again on a track/airfield day or going out as a passenger, it's worth the small investment

Wot else ?
You will need to bring a fleece or/and wet weather gear just in case it's inclement.
You will need to bring a bag with you (dustbin liner or similar) to be able to empty the contents of your car, and leave in the parking area (quite safe). This is important otherwise you will mash all your kit as it gets tumbled around in the boot! (speaking from experience!)

You need to check your car well before attending this event:-
Overall: That everything is tight and running normally, this for from a safety aspect as much as anything else
Tyre Pressures: Check the tyres for obvious damage, check the pressure - I at first set them as the hand book suggests for track days, but I found they were just too inflated. I suggest you drive on normal road pressures because you will then learn about the car control as if on the road
Brakes: Check the pads a week before you turn up, if they are low I would change them. You will use some. Don't change them the night before! Make sure they are at least run in
Oil: Check the level and bring some with you, check it before going out on track (maybe slightly increase the level) and again regularly thru the day - I find I use about 500ml during an event (might just be my engine!!!!)
Fuel: Try and arrive on a full tank, Keevil is not a good location for the Optimax so you may want to bring some in a Jerry can - I always carry at least a 20ltr can with me just in case - you will use at least a tank!!!
Clothing: Your arms and legs should be covered, don't turn up in shorts and a tee shirt even if it's a good day
Footwear: Trainers or similar that are comfortable to drive in, something supple is best - not too wide! You only want to act on one pedal at once - (well that's not quite true!) (lets just keep it simple) - and thank you 'Martvr' if you jump in here with a comment about my use of the brake pedal that I thought was the clutch at one point!!!
Cash: For the catering, lost bets etc
Stonechips, tyrewear, enginewear and other worries: What can I say ? Keevil is very clean but you may suffer some stone chips unless you tape the front of the car and the sills behind the wheels with 2" masking tape,
You will suffer some tyre wear and brake pad wear.

Don't forget, this is one day out of the year when you can learn a huge amount about the handling and balance of your car and your driving without anything coming towards you! In the long run this could save you more than a bit of rubber!

worn out now - what else is there that I haven't covered ?

Hey, trying to spoil my fun!

Thought it was a classic expression "that'll be the brake pedal then" as I attempted to restore my equilibrium somewhere back in the general area of the seat. Priceless these little incidents .

There will be a glorified burger wagon. It may need a bit of a kicking first thing if you want a bacon sarnie on arrival!!

I'll try and square this with Ed for early starters!

I have been hasseling Motorsport Events each week (they are hosting the event), I've been especially concerned about getting news from them since the upset over Bruntingthorpe and their low noise threshold.

I e-mailed and called him again today and I thought you might be interested in his reply which has just come in. This is the reason for the delay in getting back to you all and finally getting this thing 'off' the road.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the email and sorry things are taking a while longer than we hoped. The Tuscan owners will owe you a massive debt of gratitude for your hard work on their behalf once everything slots into place!

Unfortunately I am unable to confirm anything until we have firm contracts signed and sealed so please bear with us. We consider it a great privilege to have access to these fantastic venues, but have to consider the Army and RAF too! The dates have been verbally confirmed but we have to wait for all the paperwork to be signed off and that is a very complicated process.

Thanks for your patience and remember that we will ensure you have a cracking day of learning and fun.

Best regards,

Ed Moore

Motorsport Events Limited

I'm hoping Ed will add some lines on this thread to welcome everybody on board - Ed ? So As soon as Ed comes back with a green light we can tie up with him to confirm places and the small detail

thanks for the patience

After some dithering around (and some patience from Simon in answering more questions - thank you !) I've decided this has to be done... so please count me in. Just hope it is on now !

Provisionally yes also, but will need to confirm work commitments closer to time as I am busy on a long standing project at the moment.

As posted on yahoo I'll be there! How reduced are the noise restrictions at Keevil? Will we need to put the standard cans back on?

It's a big yes for the standard cans, infact I was going to post about this nearer the time - DON'T turn up with anything other than standard cans. The noise limit is 100db and you will be fine on standard cans, mine usually comes in at 96 - but you won't even get on circuit if it goes near the 100, last time I was there a Cerbera had to go off to Castle Coombe for huge mufflers that stuck out the back like wheelbarrow handles! (even then he was close I think)

Techniques for a low static sound reading :

1) Don't have your sports exhaust fitted
2) Don't use a lot a throttle - tickle the pedal to get to the revs required
3) Don't rev the engine to what they want! How do they know whether it is 4500 or 3500 rpm

Doesn't work if they have drive by monitors though.

Cheers,

Andy.

I have a sports exhaust on my Tuscan and am therefore concerned about being over the noise threshold. Where can I get the db reading checked before booking?

I think you will be over the limit with a sports exhaust, my car comes in at 96db with the standard. Where can you get it checked - uum! good question. How about turning up to another track day as a spectator and then just asking for a reading whilst there ?

Anybody else with a suggestion ?

A great idea John, yes please - would everybody who's still interested please add it to their calendar

Sorry everybody for the NO NEWS situation - still waiting for the MOD to finalise everything!

I have to say I am growing extremely frustrated and I'm looking at even further possibilities (instead of)
So they had better hurry up!

Thanks all

Simon

Good idea Simon, many thanks. I shall perhaps nip down to Goodwood. Good excuse for a drive if nothing else!

Nearer the time I will put up a 'What to expect' and 'How to prep your Car' type post

In the meantime don't through your factory fit cans in the skip!

As discussed Simon count me in...

could I slide the sleeves back in the cans round the back of the track when no ones looking or do they monitor it all day?
