Slightly off the subject but relative to insurance..I have been speaking to a couple of insurance companies in Spain about insuring my Tuscan (when I get it!!!!) and the general census has been "You want to insure a what...???" (Rough Translation). As I will be leaving the car on UK Plates due to the shocking import duties I thought about insuring the car in the UK. This isn't a problem except for the Green Card matter. Firstly the don't issue annual green cards (I am told) and secondly if they do they cost a bleedin fortune! Why? In Europe annual green cards are free and form part of the standard policy...Isn't the UK part of the EU? Anyway enough ranting.

P.S. Christine, it's not the years it's the mileage that worries me.

Any UK insurance policy must include the BASIC cover for all EU countries, so you would be insured even if you didn't have the full Green Card cover.

Having said that, only being covered Third Party isn't very reassuring on such an expensive car even if you are not breaking any laws!!

When I was in Holland I had a policy which gave me free Green Card for a year but only for 90 days at a time - not too big an issue from Holland as getting back to the UK is relatively cheap and easy.

My point is, shop around and make sure you ask all about the Green Card cover, I am sure you will find someone who can help. Try some of the companies listed on www.oilypages.com, it is a very useful web site hosted by a certain pie eating journalist

Good luck

That's a similar quote that they gave to me, I don't think you will get much better than that. When I was looking around last December there are now only two compainies that will give 12 month green cards & belive me I tried everywhere after previous company limited green card to 90 days/year.The only other one has a 90 day return to UK which is OK if you are in Belgium but a bit of a drive from south of Spain.
