Gaz Gold Pros or Pro Techs
Discussion
Anyone have experience with both of these on the Tuscan. What are the real world differences between the shocks are?
I'll be doing about 6 track days a year so cant really justify going to nitrons. Have read other threads but no one ever really quantifies why one or the other is better.

I've just put Gaz GP's on mine..I had two of the originals that were in fairly parlous condition.
The ride/handling is much more sure footed now - as you'd expect.
Someone once said to me that Nitrons are double the price of Gaz/Protech....but do you get double the improvement? (And, only someone that has tried both back-to-back, can answer that) Without a doubt Nitrons have a superb reputation...well earned I'm sure...but it does come down to budget.
at the end of the day. You pays your money and takes your choice.

I had Gaz Golds on my car for a couple of years and they are a massive improvement on the standard suspension. Combined with the Silverstone spacers, I was pretty happy.
However, I now have nitrons fitted and they are as good again. The big thing for me is that they seem to eliminate body roll so that you can 'lean' on them and really feel what the car is doing. i know what you mean about price though...

Thats interesting to know, i have gaz golds (came with car) and often wonder what the nitrons would be like. However, I now have nitrons fitted and they are as good again. Are yours the same spring rates etc?
I think you need to be careful with gaz line up as the gaz golds are not as good as the gaz gold pro's, which looked as well built if not slightly better when i compared with racing reds. I fitted gaz gold pros massive improvement on standard and im happy enough. Gaz also now do a monotube which is meant to be excellent and still less than the nitrons.
Cant comment on protechs thouygh sorry

Have been running the protechs and they were to soft for me. they did however stiffend them (without extra costs. After that they were superb.
So i would say.
Stiffend protechs can compete with nitrons but are half the price
I do live on the main land though and our roads are different. (more autobahn and higher speeds)
In the UK you guys love to drive with soft suspension(are you american related ??)

Just rubbish roads to be honest, in the last couple of years with the bad weather and cut backs its like driving on a Greek Island..So i would say.

Its the pros i have.Cant comment on protechs thouygh sorry
I have been looking into these gaz monotube dampers and cant work out what benefit i would get over the gold pros, and then what benefit over the nitrons.
I really need to look at my spring rates as i like the car stiff but its overdamped right now so need stiffer springs.
I want to make the car more of a b road tool, i'm sure i could acheive that somehow.
I think its more about the value equation if you are going to put them in order of preference. Its a different equation for everyone.
My view was that nitrons may be the ultimate for track day work and maybe even the best damper on the road too, but they were also the most expensive and i have never tracked the car in 3 years....so are they worth the extra?
Maybe, maybe not, but i couldn’t justify another £500 on top of the GGP’s for a ‘maybe....’ The GGP’s are working well for me and can be refurb’d when i need them to be....
Are you a super advanced driver? If not, are you confident you could take the difference between the GGP’s / protechs / nitrons? Given the fact that the biggest improvement is actually moving to one of these dampers in the first place, its then a case of marginal improvements when moving from the mid level damper to top end damper (i.e. it not night and day)...and on the road i would be surprised if you need it or could even feel it for 99% of the time.
Just my humble opinion (dons the flame coat........), people always lean towards their personal choice unless they recognise it was a bad one (aka Brummie)

To be honest there's nothing physically wrong with my shocks, but would like some added confidence to push the car on some track days this year without unpredictable handling.
Like Robert says I think their has to be some cost benefit or value equation too. Taking that into consideration and the fact absolutely shocks will do me a good price I'm going to go for the Gaz Gold pro's. Did consider the racing reds but can't really find much in the way of review online.
