Brembos sold (free listing weekend) now I'm considering this.....

Need a van for work now so I have a £50 1992 Escort one to use. This means the Rover may be up for sale. Just put six months Tax on the car, have a new pair of sills, clutch and cable ready to fit. I'd take £400 for the car with all the bits or £600 with the bits fitted. Just bought a new TIG welder so the sills should be a doddle.

I have really enjoyed owning this car and would like to pass her on the a fellow enfusiast. If I keep the car much longer a T16 or worse could happen (remember my violet and yellow racing colours). hehe

It didn't have an engine otherwise I'd've'd a test drive. hehe

The local Seagull population have been using my Rover for target practice.







So that's this weeks update.....















....seriously-ish the SD3 is getting close to her 50,000 milestone and I've sold my van so the Goodyear Eagle NCT2's tyres I bought for the van can go on the Rover instead. smile

Trouble is the the 49,963.4 miles of the cars life haven't been kind to the wheel trims. In fact they're in such a state I have been looking for a set of period one to replace them (insert "I didn't know Bodyform made wheel trims" gag here).



Rough as a.....



...twenty three year old wheel trim I guess.



Wet and dry sponger to get the worst of the scratches out.



Five coats of Simonise Matt Aluminium paint later and I have some tidy trims.



Now I have to wash the Seaguls opinion off my car as there's no point putting clean trims on a dirty car. The bare black wheels look good though.



A little detail that's made a big difference. Tyres will be fitted tomorrow.

Now should I get a white tyre marker for the "Goodyear" on the sidewalls or keep them stealth?

While my finances are looking for a paddle the Rover and I are stuck together for the time being. So she is no longer for sale. Unless you have an Alfa 155 you'd like to part exchange. wink

For the first time ever I have a car with matching tires. A bit of a pain in the cheeks fitting ones that were originally destined for a 6J to a set of 4J wheels but hey it was all fun and exercise (apparently these were standar fitment on XR2 Pepperpots). They do make the wheels look too small and the gap between the tyre and arch is noticably bigger but blody Hell does the car stuck to the road now. The steering is a lot lighter as well and the car feels lower as well.

The first car I ever took in part exchange was a white Astra Merit with full GTE body conversion, GTE seats, fourteen Inch alloy wheels and a Peco BigBore4 exhaust. Hateful horrible pile of Vauxhall. Swapped it for a standard Belmont. That blew up and I got a Cavalier SRI 130 that was superb until someone stole the oil filler cap, the crank went on the A47 at 70. Fun. wink





I never use the key to open the fuel flap. I also never leave it at an angle with the dust shield open. Thievin' little censoredfurious

Lucky the payday fairies visit today so the tank was empty anyway. My guess it they didn't get in by the screw dever gouge marks.

Three options;

1/ Get a Mini lockable filler cap.

2/ De-lock the flap.

3/ Relocate the filler neck and leave a short pipe full of pond water in its place.

More filler flap lock damage this morning. No difference in my gague on the commute so I guess they didn't get any petrol this time.

Been messing about with my flap today. wink

Took the lock mechanism out and replaced it with a shaped bolt, weled in place and filled as with weld as much as possible to minimalise the use of filler.



Took the opportunity to push the "we serve you" dent out as well. My usual paint supplyer wasn't open so I slummed it to Halfords. Funny enough they don't stock 1988 Rover Cherry Red Metalic so I found a close match.



Red primer. Two coats.



First coat of colour, looks a bit bright.



Second coat dosen't look much darker either.



Bugger!



The lid looks about right, so two more coats and clear later....



Crap!

Just as well I'm not a perfectionist eh? rolleyes

At least now I won't get petrol nicked (I hope).

Cable release next to the drivers seat. I'm still annoyed every time I look at the wrong colour flap. Maybe that red over a matt black base will bring it down a few notches.

Getting ready to fix the sills, clutch and waxoil for Winter next week. wink

I found the match was perfect too.
No I didn't know that. I'll be needing a few litters soon as the whole car needs a respray.

If that's your car in the profile photo I have some Aluminium rods and TIG welder if you want to bring it by one weekend. wink

If your name 1275 is an A series engine Mini sills (I've done so many I could do them in my sleep) are easy Metro ones can be problematic as they usually go at the same time as the rest of the floor. Alegro and Maestro ones aren't worth the effort so just patch and go. MG1300 GT ones are fun if you accidently weld through a hydrogas pipe. I was stuck under my 1300GT (1380 turbo) long enough to justify coilovers. hehe

Could be done with a Princess gearbox but front wheel drive V8's are generally crap.


What is it about an SD1 powered SD3? You about the fifth person to suggest it. scratchchin

I'd go Jag' I.R.S axle (put together by the guys at Wisbech Engineering) and proper V8 instead of the Rover one. Also I would have to junk the front end and fit a cross member strong enough and basically run either a ladder chassis or space frame the shell to make it strong enough to transmit the torque without twisting.

So it would be a case of understeer in torque steer out for front wheel drive or a complete chassis fabrication with the SD3 shell dropped on top. The amount of floor space the gearbox tunnel would take up means I'd either have to fit a disabled gear box or have very narrow pedals and seats.
