Unless you're an automotive genius.
Have you seen my Fiat?Page one of this thread I suggested a Prelude 2.2 Vtec?
That fell trough and I had to pay over £2,000 for insurance this year due to an extremely exagerated claim from three years ago getting the injury shysters for you treatment.
A friend of mine told me he had a T16 for sale after trying to fit it to an MGF for two years. Told him it wouldn't work. So I bought an engine loom for a 620ti and waited for a reply email. Three months later I'd given up on the idea and decided to work on the "invisble car" (Alfa/Lancia and Fiat forum) instead.
I'm not a fan of the T16 but they are cheap and Andy Nichols (AN Racing) drinks in the same pub as me.
It doesn't have to be Honda or Rover either. I have been tempted towards the KV6 or 3.2 Honda Legend engine but it is lack of budget that is dictating the car stays standard for the time being.

I wish my bloody engine was more reliable.
There you go, win win situation. You get a reliable Mini (that'd probably be a bit quicker as well) and I get room for a KV6 and some money to do it with. You could always ditch your single SU for a twin SU manifold modified to take a pair of TDM850 carb's. It's what my 1380 ran on for years. Never had the car dyno'd but it was quicker than my turbo.

I still think you'd be better off with the Rover. She's trouble free, reliable and less rusty (from the counds of things) just as quick and cheaper to insure than a Mini as well.
Too rare for my liking, and er...you seem to be better at looking after your car than me Leather and engine donor?

Honda engine, manual box and about three and half times the power.

Well in twenty four hours time a potential Rover replacement ends on eBay. Kev' (formally Kev' Van of Death) wants to fully restore the SD3 and take her to shows next year. A much better for the car than me getting my grinder out eh?
If it all goes through Kev' lives up the road so there will be regular updates.

So another quick update. Kev sold his Volvo to pay for the Rover. He got a £200 deposite and a cheque for £300 on a Monday. Friday he finds out the cheque has bounced and tries to find the chap who bought the car. Fails to and reports it missing presumed stolen. The car left the country for Croatia on the Tuesday. In the mean time the guy who was offering me the next car is being patient with me as I'm being understanding with Kev.
The following Monday Kev's Volvo is stopped at Dover and the driver held for forteeen hours waiting to be interviewed. The cheque bounced because he has a limit of £250 per cheque and had forgotten. An honnest mistake rather than a disappearing act. That was a couple of weeks ago and the car I wanted next is now on eBay the guy couldn't wait any longer.

Got a renewal quote from Post Office insurance yesterday. It's gone down from £2172 to £1795 but the excess has gone from £300 to £500.
I don't think they want me to be their customer anymore. Because I have taken a hit with my salery and the cost of everything else has gone up I don't think I'll be renewing.
Got the Meerkats on the case and the top five quotes were from £660 to £812 all with £250 excess. I wonder if I can get a discount if I'm quoted in they're advertising saying "I saved over £1000 compared to my renewal quote with......"? No harm in asking eh?
P.S I didn't get to do the sills yet and the gritters are on their way so I'd better get my arse in gear. Also the clutch only slips in third gear so it hasn't been done yet either as it's an engine out job, split the block from the box on a bench and swear a lot because I don't have a locater tool and the spark plug socket I used when I did the clutch on my Fiat is probably the wrong size.
The adventures continue.

Your 200 would fly with that lot in it.
You're supposed to talk me out of it. How much fun would the car be with 200+bhp instead of the standard 63?
Would have to keep the car as standard looking and sounding as possible as well.

'er in Panties thinks I should just buy a quicker car.
She probably has a point.Even my man from Lotus has doubts.
With the Tomcat engine and bits due to finish I decided to have another look. Still no bids with ten minutes to go. I was about to bid when I noticed at the end of the listing...
"Sorry now Sold".
...Bugger! The chap got £650 for all the bits in the end and to be honnest I wouldn't have felt very honnest if I won it all for £100 anyway.

Remember this? Now you can buy the t'shirt...Available via PM at £9.99 each.
Back on topic and for the first time in nine months (apart from toping washer fluid up and checking I had oil) I needed to lift the bonnet in anger last night.
Yep, a headlight bulb had fused. Luckilly I keep spares in the boot so I didn't need to drive home illegally.
Also yesterday the Rover and I had a bit of an adventure...

Interesting footage of that RTA there LQ.
Before I saw the incident unfold, my long standing prejudice against White Van Man, based on many years experience of our roads, again played a part. I think both party's Insurance companies should be made aware of your excellent evidence and let them sort it out.
Since they have made that junction "safer" there have been seventeen collision and heck knows how many near misses. The Police wanted an unedited version to use as evidence that the junction is a liabillity as it's the first time a collision has been recorded there. New bulbs arrived today. Just in time from the looks of the one I took out....
..I guess they have a shelf life but £3.99 a year for headlights isn't bad really.
While I had the bonnet up I can confirm the car hasn't lost any oil whatsoever, coolant level is fine and I started to do a shopping list for the clutch swap. New exhaust gaskets, the down pipe looks a bit ropey and new one is only £4.00 +£8.00 postage so I'll add that as well, new oil and filter (£1.50 for the filter and £15.00 worth of oil), at least eight cans of beer, two Pizzas, Kev (van of deaths) engine hoist and a swear box on standby.
Once all that's together we'll be good to go.
