RIP SAAB. Loved my 2000 93 2.0 LPT SE Coupe and always wanted another one.

If the chinese want the tech can they not just buy the car and strip it?

Or isnt there a company in France that does it and provides the info at a cost?

I had a Rover and there gone.
Replaced for a SAAB who are gone too!
That was replaced with a Vauxhall so i suspect they will be next! wink
If this was to continue it wouldnt be a bad thing as my next company car is a stty Peugoet! smile

2000 SAAB 9-3 Aero HOT Convertible:
One of the worse car purchases, and biggest dissapointment against expectation i have ever experiences.... Chassis/torque steer was actually dangerous!!

modulation of the throttle pedal? avoids the dangerous bit then confused
The thing had a traction control system that basically worked by Flashing a yellow light at you as you suddenly torque steered into oncoming traffic every time you wanted to apply any power in anything other than completely dry conditions. Need to pull out from a junction with haste..... Forget about it! Even on a car that had not suffered bulkhead seperation, the stearing wheel/rack would move about alarmingly.

I think it's a terrible shame that SAAB had to die, but I'm also happy that the soap is finally over. As said before, if it was a pet, it would have been put to sleep months ago.

I am surprised that GM has any technology that would of be of any interest to the Chinese. The other way around maybe.
I disagree. The West (Including US) are very good innovators. The Chinese just seem to be able to get the mass-production for cheap money bit right. Chinese Auto-mobiles / Motorcycles, just tend to be copies of the West or Japanese.

Has to be said, with the over-capacity for car production in Europe it's amazing that SAAB is the only one to have gone in recent times

Well, with the greatest will in the world, i've not seen any innovative Chinese cars yet?

Korea/ Japan, yes. China... I remain to be convinced.

Eh , you must be joking right . Countless companies refuse to go china because of that same reason . All the Chinese have is cheap labour

I learned to drive in a 900 Turbo 20 years ago. This is a sad day.

Agree. It had all become quite ugly to watch, and it had little chance of any survival.

At least now there is the possibility of Saab being reborn with a fresh start.

Lovely attitude to the prospect of 3700 employees losing their jobs. Merry Christmas!

They really didn't have jobs. How many cars did Saab make this year? At least there's now the possibilty that someone will buy the Trollhattan plant and make it viable again.

Doesn't VW want to buy them? They're everything else.
Nope, rumours over Alfa Romeo but the only thing they need more of is production capacity and that's in the works already.

The Chinese must be desparate for improvements in crash safety and engine technology. I imagine that's exactly what they wanted.

Is it possible that GM wouldn't want to be seen to be unable to make a go of it, thus suffering big corporate embarrasement if the Chinese then succeeded. Intelectual property - I just don't buy that.

Sad for the employees. Loved my 900 Turbo 16V

The US in general are, just look at companies like Facebook, Google, Intel, Motorola et al.

Cars on the other hand? Nowt special.
I think you would be surprised to see just how much of today's 'modern' automotive technology originated in the States, over half a century ago in some cases.
