RE: Beefed up Boxster

LOL. Good call bertie! I'm just jealous of that v8 rumble really! I would buy a tvr if it was better engineered. Maybe if tvr installed a bmw v8 to guarantee reliability, like a few of the supercar manufacturers - Paganini etc. My mate bought a brand new cerbera 4.5 and has endless problems.

I will buy a Porsche. If I break down in Dresden I have 10 miles to the next dealer, with a Tiv its more like 400 miles.
I think the slagging off of Porsches and their drivers says more about the stupidity and narrow-mindedness of the writer than anything else. Porsches are universally recognised as great cars. They are great all-round packages - they are after all designed to appeal to a bigger buying sector. But the great allround package has its great price. I think Tivs are sensational in sheer bang-for bucks, and for what they cost in terms of performance as opposed to a Porsche I think they almost have a RIGHT to be less reliable. But with 1 dealer in France, 1 in Belgium, 2 in Germany, they're not really an alternative as far as I'm concerned.
I wrote this to show that there can be really good reasons for buying a Porker (or a Tiv), and not just to show off or pose. So you take your pick and pay the price.
But all these generalisations - all Tivs breaks down (NOT TRUE!!) and all Porsche drivers are w*nkers (NOT TRUE) is just being really really stupid.

Rowan Atkinson should know ?,The real facts are that many Porsche drivers admire TVRs but could not deal with the poor build quality and the crap dealers, I dont think your smart arse comments apply to every Porsche driver, I have see fat baldy TVR drivers outside the school gates, you should be able to admire other marques without being so defensive, life beyond a TVR mate

WalterU,
Bang on - good post, you have summed it up perfectly.
Lets ignore all the 'my mates sister had one and it broke down every day' comments and talk about all performance cars and opinions (as long as they are constructively put).
I sometimes feel like I'm at my son's primary school listening to some of the crap on here lately.
If anyone has actual experience of a problem then please post constructively, if not don't repeat hearsay.
Rant over - Sorry

Hmmm, don't assume that BMW == reliability. It doesn't. I'm one rebuild apiece with a BMW v8 and a Rover v8. Rover was ultimately down to a manufacturing fault in the block. BMW was down to a... manufacturing fault in the block (nikasil vs. alusil liners).

Hi All,
does anyone know about a factory boxster turbo thats being built right now in germany? Some guy I met here in the states said that he has #5 off the production line. Anybody know about this?
speed.
I doubt they would allow the Boxter to compete head to head with the 996 , or would they
I just came back from the 2002 car show and what a rip off, no 996tt or 996 gt2 was there. For all that care to know, I asked all porsche reps there if the boxster turbo was being built and they said that porsche has considered it but, no plans have been made to make it. One guy did say that he knew a guy back at the factory and was told that the idea isn't impossible but, they would rather install a larger current engine than create a special turbo engine for the boxster. speed.

no they won't the bastards. The BoxSter S doesn't have enough power, and the Carrera Cabrio is so f***ing expensive, it's not true

One new 996 cab with hard top included and sport susp. and also had the 18" wheels plus sport seats that do recline ,came to 96,800 U.S. dollars. Pricing has gone overboard. what next. I have seen 1999 996 cabs with 20k - 40k miles for 55k - 70k. that may the deal for some people to go after. speed.

Funny that, we all laugh at any TVR (not that we see many)that turns up at our track days umm fast on the straight bits but slow lap times ?
Yeah, and we all laugh at Porker drivers for the same reason at our track days. That makes us all very clever doesn't it?

Good point, but if this sort of thing winds you up, I suggest you don't try browsing any other popular internet forums - they can get VERY much worse than this one!
Boxster turbo?. Most, but not all Porsche models have had a turbo version, 911 (930) through 964, 993 to 996. 924 through 944 to 968. the 928 and 365 are the exceptions (NO turbos). Surely logic says that there will be a 986 (Boxster) turbo.

actually, now that porsche is building the carrera GT, they don't have to build a turbo boxster. Those cars look the same, don't they ?? All porsche models { 996,986 } are nice. I just don't understand that RV thing ??? Somebody should be taken to the back room and punished bad!!!!! speed.
Arlington Northampton said last Saturday when we went and test drove a Boxster S that there WILL be a turbo version of the Boxster. Don't know what engine they'll bolt the blower to, but there will be one.
This only added to the "What colour, trim, etc" debate that was already very much in evidence.
In short...we're going to get rid of the MX-5 and get a Boxster S. I have it on good authority that "you only live once" and I've always hankered after a Porker since I was a nipper.
