RE: Audi Planning More Powerful RS6?
Discussion
I drive an M5 with 400bhp, and it's quick..........So the Audi must be fantastic. I just love it that BMW M Power and Audi are producing the cars that us in the minority (Not Particulary Environmentally Friendly....as far as our cars go) will be able to buy when they come on the second hand marke when they're about five years old.
But... The RS6 V10BT reputedly has 610bhp anyway! A report (which was published on here too) claimed that Austrian auto approvals engineers had to perform various tests, including the chassis dyno. The resultant information was that it kicks out 610bhp, and that the probability is that Audi engineers were too embarrassed to claim the full amount. It would also make it more difficult to produce/sell future versions.

What a pointless exercise!
I really think that for a large saloon/estate the cut-off point should be around 450 BHP.
How about this for a radical idea?
A stripped out CSL Style RS4
Saloon version only, V8 in 420BHP format, weight 1500KG.
Priced @ around £55K
Every time I read a RS6 thread this comment shows up. I really think that for a large saloon/estate the cut-off point should be around 450 BHP.

It's an RS6, dammit and that means it is a whacking great estate car with enough horses to scare you dogs to death. Some of us prefer decent sized cars and thus comparing it to a track turned version of a mid-sized saloon, is about as relevant as comparing it to a space-hopper.
it will be the like the old RS6 - a lot of owners will be running 10% more power min, just buy remapping them aftermarket so the "plus" version is just to allow Audi to charge like £10K more for a few bits of trim to sell the last 50 cars
my old RS6 ran 505bhp from a week after I got it...certainly an awesome everyday car...just a shame about the running costs !..but I would have another tomorrow if i was limited to one practical car etc

If we extrapolate current rate of engine power output increase in the German Uber saloon / estate market, we shall see that by 2011, an entry level car will have an average of 7,211,21 BHP, thus making the 610 HP Audi look pathetic in comparison...thus making James the laughing stock of Foxhill's Golf Club, Surrey.
FGS, ease off on the HP! Lets see some weight reduction and better driver feel from the Quattro. Or how about a selectable diff in an Audi, Quaife LSD please with 4WD and RWD selections...oh yes.

Sounds like fun. But not the RS6's place in the car world. Just an uber 4WD car, with loads of room, goodies and comfort. To give massive performance in a benign, controllable way.
Any car is a compromise - it can't be all things to all men.

Oi, leave the space hoppers alone.. they need all the help they can get.Instead of producing a car theoretically capable of 190mph, I'd much prefer it if they simply reduced the final drive gear ratios (or equivalent) so that it does a more modest 120mph max. This single change could be used to improve acceleration in the useable speed bands - which is half the reason for buying something as daft as an RS6 in the first place.
Also, at 2 whole tons its one hell of a lard-arse but its still ‘only’ got 300bhp / ton, so another thing they could try and do is put the damn thing on a diet and get it down to something more reasonable like 1,600kg. This would produce a 20% performance gain (loosely speaking).
And I supposed if they did both the above they could also produce a car with less power, and better economy and yet possibly make it even more accelerative - in theory !
It wasnt that long ago that most cars were in the 1,000-1,200kg bracket. I wonder how much of a modern cars weight comes down to nanny-state safety requirements like 10 airbags, multiple crumple zones, quad side impact bars, integrated roll over bars in the roof sections etc etc, and whilst this is a nice plus point about car technology evolution, we are all being speed-fined into doing 20mph everywhere, so how much of it is really necessary ?!

570 > 610 bhp increase........................ WOW that is going to be really noticeable.
How about just reducing the weight?
Oh I forgot bragging rights at the golf club.
Only on this website could someone see a 610bhp super estate car as lardy or get into the geekish subject of "losing weight" - get a life - Its a 610bhp estate car!!! who cares about the friggin weight of the thing! - I think its insane and I think its superb - you need that BHP in your life - M5, RS6, E63 - they're all greatHow about just reducing the weight?

It's a beast no question but weighs the same roughly as a sherman tank. The figure's from the old car and the "plus" for 0-60's etc were very similair. They were awesome!. Agreed with some other comments on here that this is the engine that should have been in the R8 with the turbo's still firmly attatched!. Real RS's have turbo's!!!

Thats the great thing about choice.

Why would people want a stripped-out four door saloon.
What Audi and BMW need to do is just make their cars lighter for the next generation (Audi especially). I'd pay £10k more for lighter weight materials with delight.
you've got more money than sense! Just go buy an Ariel Atom for the weekend, and whatever you want for the grind...What Audi and BMW need to do is just make their cars lighter for the next generation (Audi especially). I'd pay £10k more for lighter weight materials with delight.

As to whether I have more money than sense, perhaps it wouldn't take much money for that to be the case!
