DVLA used to be one of my main clients untill Capita took the contract on within the last 4 months or so, Shred-it still service DVLA however I am not directly managing this account.

Shred-it do all DVLA on site document destruction, we are usually on-site all day, around 6 tons gets shredded.
At no time will the truck leave the site without the paper being no bigger then your thumb nail.

There is no other company destrucing data, on-site or off site.

Be interesting to why all the missing v5c did not end up in our trucks ad in some other random one only to be stolen.

What did I say? Inside job.

Is this DVLA covering their ass, ie making out they were stolen on way to shredder ...as PH leader goes?
Where did PH get the story from... DVLA?

As for their incompetence I can add another two-pennuth:

When the new V5C had to be got for my old 'classic in the garage' still on it's old V5, DVLA kindly let me know that because I had an 'historic' vehicle, when my new V5C was presented, they would return my old V5 to keep as part of the car's history, if I requested so.
Logical eh?

One problem.
We are dealing with an incompetent bunch of government agency wallies.

1 Nothing arrives. I contact DVLA. Sorry we haven't received you old V5.

2 Really? How come you've signed for my Recorded letter it was sent in?

3 Ahh. We have your Document (note the singular!!) and it will be despatched asap.

4 V5C turns up. Where is my historical V5?

5 Ahh. We are not under any obligation to supply this and things can go astray etc etc. On and on until they admit it's gone! Lost (hey, there's something with a familiar ring to it!!!!)

6 But we will send you a photocopy of your V5...
and they did!
Surely if you have been able to photocopy it you must have my original?

7 Der... Communication ends.

Bl**dy unbelievable!

So I have every record, old logs, you name it, for my 1967 classic... except the original V5 ...still i do have the DVLA 'photocopy'.

Now, has that restored your faith in the agency of the nanny state?

If Boeing new about it for the best part of four years and said nothing, did nothing, then your relatives died in the incident what would feel like?
Oh it don't matter we can't hold them responsible for trying to hide the truth or costs to innocent people.
I think not.!!!
Yea but boeing didn't know about it did they??!! Sort your F KING life out and start comparing it to something more realistic you twunt! banghead
EXACTLY.!
And that was my point in the 'whole' comment including the stupid remark about who is / isn't responsible.

That's what makes DVLA responsible unlike Boeing who were just an innocent party & victim also.

Pehaps reading the whole of the information before making stupid remarks might prove valuable & reduced incompetence in your own answers.

(Or is it just impotence on your behalf?)

Edited due to spelling mistake in frustration to idiotic remarks & people

Just because somebody removed their posting, once it's been quoted & read it's been said, and in this case quoted by several.

A note for all late readers of the article.

...and more frustratingly for me I didnt say that

I pointed out "Duty of care":-

I'd question their "duty of care".

Has to be some recompense to this - for instance;

If it was a Weapons company who had explosives "stolen" which blew up about 10 things each week, surely something would happen to them.....!
More to the point, and to be clear, my meaning is that the fictional company would not be accoutnable for the things that were blown up - but accountable for their failure to uphold a duty of care (a direct result of which results in.....<irrelivent>)

Thanks.

If they were stolen in 2006, 4 years ago, why are we only hearing about it now?
Were not, back in 2006 the DVLA sent out letters with every tax reminder explaining it all with pics and everything but as usuall i guess they all went in the bin without being read ?
I had 7 over the course of a year when the tax was due on each of me cars, got em well into 2007 as well, in fact i'm pretty sure i got one last year as well when i got a new V5 through.

Doesn't go to someone that doesn't have a car.

Four years is plenty time enough to change to style of Log Book / V5 whatever you call it. A simple change of colour on the front page would have been sufficient.

Damn, why am I not put in charge? Oh yeah, I'd sack the incompetent lot and increase the number of unemployed. Better leave it in the hands of professionals.

(An additional note for Gallen, I had no intention of a mis-quote but just to clearly state how liabilty should not be overlooked. Sorry if it seemed other than that.)

Did they mention that 130 000 blank forms had been stolen on that letter?

Normally more than happy to slag off the government, but after a tiny bit of googling turns out the printers and the shredders were both private companies, not government run. Can't really blame the nanny state for this one methinks!
