Johns cerbera rebuild and upgrade
Discussion
as you know car is away at the rollcentre having the rollcage built got some moulds that may help with the body styling.

back into the cerbera after far to long been to martins today to finalise the cage rear struts remove the rear wishbone mountings some crossbracing to allow the diff to sit higher in the chassis plus one or two other chassis mods to facilitate the cage fitting sorted a fag packet design for the front triangulation and sorted many other parts uprights, drive shafts which are hollow units off the mosler, brakes, wheels, rack, steering column, airbox etc. so lots to get on with some pics to give you a flavour of the build.

well back on to the cerbera in earnest again want to move it on and the wedge over the next weeks big time so got the cage finished plus lots of chassis mods mainly to acceppt the new suspension mounts and stiffen it up all round ordered the new 81/4 in diff from redman with hydratrac ls unit and have built a building table for the chassis to keep it flat and level for marking out fixing points etc.

My post on page 2 read "I am with m4tti and Jhonno, such a sad end to a piece of automotive history."
Another one gone that will never be replaced, surely with so little of the original car left it would have been better to just build a car from scratch, as it stand this is not a thread about the build of a Cerbera rather the opposite.

Based on the photos in this thread I would be inclined to agree with you, but I met John a couple of months ago at a track day and what has has in mind for this project is epic. Just wait until you see the finished result it will be spectacular.
I have also met John and he does know his onions but it will not be a Cerbera.I so wish he a brought a write off or something to do this project with rather than a perfectly fine 4.2.
just in mine and nicks defense as if we need to defend ourselves i would like to point to a few facts, the first proper racing cerb was built by martin short it did use the speed six albeit they went through over twenty engines in the first year it also had much work done to the bodyshell you cant make an effective race /trackcar with all the niceties of a road car, plus the speed twelve is a cerb but it dosent bear much resemblence to the standard car either engine wise or suspension, i am aware of people views but i hope they see it for what it hopefully will be another good car that may grace the race track at some point and help to keep the marque out there in peoples minds.plus i restored a crashed chim which is now nicks orange blown car and am a god way through restoring my wedge to nearenough original condition have any of the dissenters done similar, and thats without my customer cars i have brought back from the dead.
work today cut away the old front shock mounts and cleaned them up got some bottom suspension mounts fabbed and tacked dont look a lot for a days work but the cleaning up where you cut stuff off takes ages i also took delivery off the new diff look good,i also have drilled the front bottom suspension mount holes the front ones going through the existing brackets you can see the original holes and it gives you an idea how much the chassis is being lowered although it isent quite as much as the gap suggests thats more to do with where the pickup point is for the uprights we are using.

Hi John I do see this as a superb engineering project but I just wish you had taken a scrap car that would not have turned a wheel on the road again and used that as the basis for your project instead of using a rare, irreplaceable model.
I do not really believe this will further awareness of the brand, let's face it there is not enough TVR left for it to be really called a TVR. Engine....nope not TVR, Gearbox....nope not original either, diff.... nope not that either so when some one comes along and says something along the lines of "well done for winning" and then asks about the car and details they will be left with what, the impression that TVR are crap unless you stick a yank lump in it and change the car completely? Mike Saunders proved for years that a Cerbera is a good race car in its own right using the AJP8 and the T5 box.
The Speed 12 was not a Cerbera, it was a Speed 12 so that arguement is moot in my opinion.
As for saving a Chim and a wedge, yes you are to be applauded for having done that, great job.
AS for others saving Cerbera's, loads on here have done it, I myself are half way through a rolling restoration with all mechanical components so far completed and the body coming off for a full chassis restoration.
My only gripe is that one less Cerbera is around now and so little is left of the original car it isn't really a Cerbera any more but a kit car with a few bits from a donor that was a Cerbera. I am sure TVR Glen could have supplied you what you needed and probably for a lower price.
I really do appreciate the skill and workmanship you are putting into this it is a fantastic project.
