jurdy - the reason that this topic is open etc is because people want to talk about it. IF you dont then why dont you just ignore this thread and start another about ecus or something?

Simple facts supply and demand, prices have been falling and selling one is a real pain, believe me, tried for months to sell mine since beginning of the year as work constraints required a family four door. Thought well get a Griff and a nice FF door, but then Griff prices went crazy, Decided if it ain't selling no point giving it away and just enjoy it and I am.
But around the + 20k mark there is a huge choice for buyers and as the Cerbera is not exactly a rare car there is a wider choice plus at that sort of money you are coming into the Tuscan area. I believe prices will stabilise over time and the buyer now if paying realistic money will not see the depreciation seen by many, it is a buyers market so even though I have paid and lost dearly with my Cerb do I regret it. Well my bank balance does but I don't, the looks, the noise and the power and the fun is worth every painful penny.

jurdy said: JDF,

Posted an earlier response to your thread asking you to show me where a 98 4.5 was on a forecourt at 18k. You haven't been able to do that and have just highlighted a point that everyone knows. That is to say that the motor trade DO actually make a margin of the cars they sell. I mean, Hey you didn't think they did it for the love of the cars did you?
.....................................................

JDF

I never said you could buy off the forcourt at this price simply that private sellers are finding things very difficult and the ACTUAL prices cars are selling for is very low. At the end of the day if all you can sell your car for is a very low price it is no comfort to know that the only person willing to make an offer to buy it is a dealer.

The other point I was trying to highlight is that dealers do not have a magic supply of cars they are simply buying cars from private owners through Top Marques and Exchange and Mart etc. If you don't beleive you can buy a 4.5 for £18K look on the PH classified, look in Top Marques and Exchange and Mart all contain 4.5 Cerbera's with asking prices of ~£20K ono. Surely you are better off buying privately and pocketing ~£7K in case something goes wrong than trying to rely on a warranty which hardly ever completely covers any repair. Plus with the reliability record of the Cerbera warranty companies can argue almost anything is fair wear and tear!

Gazzab - Point taken mon brave but...I have a niggle free car that doesn't need anything doing to it...yet, touch wood etc, etc. so no posts from me until I get my next bout of paranoia over a 'noise' or something.

I totally understand what people are saying about Cerbera prices! Had to drop the price on my C8ERA as I've bought a house and it must go ASAP now. Rang a few dealers to see what they would give for it and got replies varying from £15,500 down to £12,000!!! Couldn't believe it! She's up for £17,750 now and is a Christmas bargain with all the money I've spent on her in the last few months!

Hoping to be in the market for a Cerb from tomorrow, so this is good news really. Bit of a bummer for all you guys trying to sell just now though.

The prices always go up in January (for some strange reason). So I say snap up a bargain now. The prices will be higher come the new year.

mycerbera,

why didn't you sell the car first and then go looking for a house, the you maybe wouldn't be so desperate to sell, or was that scenario impossible?

Yes situation was forced on me. Bummer is I bought the house to garage the Cerb and now it's gotta go! Work cut my overtime too, so money to run it is running out. Someone will get a bargain!

jdf said: I looked at a 4.5 Fernhurst had for sale and spoke to the previous owner. He had advertised it for £23K had no response at all and eventually Fernhurst bought it from him for just £18K, they then loaded it with a £7K margin

Oops bit of a moment

Have a look at

www.pistonheads.com/ads/displayAd.asp?advertId=6358

Was previously on PH for £26850

Not quite as bad as the 7k but still nearly 3 grand for a quick once over a warrantee and the option of a bit of finance if you need it.

Still good news for you sellers not so good for us buyers. Still the market is always quiet at this time of year. A couple of months ago Auto trader would have 6 or 7, 4.5 Cerbera's under 25k now you'd be lucky to see 2

JDF

I don't know for sure how much Ferhurst gave for this car but I guarantee it would have been at least a good few grand short of the asking price.

I am in the market for a cerb myself so i am not on here moaning about the prices dropping, they can drop abit more for me then stay the same for a few years.
However i can remember when insurance first became a big problem and cosworths were loosing huge amounts of money by the day.My father had one and lost a bucketful in only 18 months (15,000 down to 5,000) and that was about 92 when that was alot of money. So maybe all of the no win no fee adverts have had an effect on what your cerb is worth?(My company insurance quote has come through at 3 times last years) but it is not all doom and gloom, how low can prices go? not that much further cause if you are asking 15ish grand for a cerb how much are chimps/griffs gonna be?
I am not at all worried about how much i am goona loose/spend on a car, a car is for enjoyment whatever the cost and if it does worry you then maybe it was the wrong car for you!

i lost 10k on a BMW over 6 months. Now that was disastrous depreciation - and they say german cars hold there value. Rubbish these days I'm afraid. Only truly rare or special cars hold more than 60% of their value after 3 years now...wonder what the appreciation of a ferrari enzo would be

personally, I hope the Cerbs maintain there current depreciation values (seem to hold about 45 - 50% after 3 years - which is not too far off Merc figures...) as I am not long from getting one methinks

I've said it before but I'll say it again...I lost £15K in 12 months (33%) on a new Tuscan - now that was neither expected or funny.

As someone else said I think some of this situation is due to the image of the S6 (and to a far lesser extent the S8) engine. It makes we wonder who's going to be brave enough to buy a Tuscan without a warantee in the next few years.

Of course the Griff and Chim are a different situation again. The Chim seemed to depreciate quickly due to over supply whereas the Griff is holding it's value better.

Anyway, as they say it was fun at the time, but I think my days of buying the latest TVR off the motorshow stand are over (although I'm off to the motorshow in a couple of days so who knows)

I have just bought my cerb. I was very particular in what I wanted and I didn't settle for anything else - hence I paid good money for it.

I saw a lot of cars and frankly, some are worth the money and some are not. It's in my opinion that the cheap cars for sale are cheap for a reason - either bad colour combination, dodgy service history or quite simply that they suck.

It's like anything, if you want quality, you have to pay for it.
