[quote=carl_w]It's rumoured that VPower will be coming to the UK next Tuesday.
What is this Vpower? Which brand? Anyone used it?
Have been using Shell V-Power in the Cerbera for the last 4 months over in Germany.
Car runs very sweetly and is more responsive.....

Matt101,
IIRC the adaptive map only works below 4000rpm. So yes the map can get adjusted below 4000rpm.
However there is no knock sensor so it would not retard the ignition to stop pinking since it has no way of detecting this.
As regards the fuel, you are not going mad. Optimax may have the highest octane value but since this is achieved by adding volatile aromatics the octane rating can degrade with age (allegedly). Some people have noticed on some other brand of 97 octane (can't remember which, sorry).
There are some good threads on this topic posted on other forums (by research chemists) such as gtr.co.uk.
BTW the only cars with the switchable ignition maps are the red rose spec cerberas.
All this is irrelevant though, a standard cerbera should not pink on either 97 or optimax. Find someone who knows about ajp's to look at it (not necessarily a dealer, as gazzab has pointed out).
106 ron fuel stands a very good chance of stopping it pinking. It will also empty your wallet rather quickly (not sure if it is any good for your cats either)

This pinking, poor runnning etc around the 2-3k revs is a fairly common problem reported here. I also had it and went down the accelerator cable , idle setting throttle pots, coils etc.
What eventually cleared it was changing the HT ignition leads.
If nothing else check that all the leads are firmly pushed onto the plugs. I have had my cerbera come back from a main dealer and sound a little rough only to discover that they hadn't pushed the leads home properly !

petrol is petrol wherever you are - I work at a refinery in the North East and we supply almost EVERYONE round here. Shell don't send tankers all the way across the country to supply the garages around here. All petrol is made to a minimum government spec so is effectively all the same. Optimax and similar niche brands usually have a small additive pump inside the main pump with all the lovely benziney/tolueney goodies in it. Same with supermarket petrol - it's the same stuff - they fill up here too. All that "oh I always buy BP it's the best" is all cobblers....rant over....ohh that feels better

I'd have to say I believe that. I use whatever is cheapest at the pump. I've used optimax 98/95, not made a blind bit of difference to the car performance or even mpg. Completely stunned by the guy who says he can't make his car pink!! Surely he must be able to.
