In a later video (at full throttle i think) he runs a 4.5 against a modded skyline, he showed a clip of the Cerb against a 911 etc! He said then it was a 4.5! But by god did it go some!

Did you have to bring up the Cerbie v Skyline?!! I know it was modified but it was still not good to see the Cerbie beaten in a straight line drag + then there's the Capri shown after arrgh !!!! - i'm only joking here so don't take offence !! Other than a GT prep'd car has anyone seen what the max is that can be got from a 4.5 Cerbie? gas-flowed heads and ports, air filter, fast cam's, sports can etc….. The Ford RS2000 else where on PistonHeads has a 2.9 0-60 !!

RS2000 0-62 2.9 Seconds????

Are you sure?

Thats R1 speed, surely an Escort is not set up to do this sort of thing regardless who has worked on it.

Or do you mean RS200?

That explains all - phew!

Thought for a minute there that I need not have bought a TVR but gone to Dagenham for a Max Power special!

Is that true that some of the English police used RS200s?
Can't remember where I read this...

I think that was probably more like the RS2000.

I cant see any Constabulary forking out over £100K for a mid engined group b rally supercar.

The RS2000 was a Ford Escort that was a limited release that was released to 'honour' the RS1600i (The mostly white ones you see with the lines getting gradually thinner across the bonnet). It had been breathed on slightly by the SVT boys and it had alloys and a nicer interior etc. I think there were about 2000 of them produced. In essence it was just a special edition Escort.

The RS200 was a Group B rally car that shared some of its components with the Escort. However, it was only homologated for road use in exceptionally limited numbers. It was a mid engined rally car that competed against the 6R4, Audi S1 Quattro and the odd Porsche. It had two enormous turbo's on it and was quite simply scary! Most of them ended up in Supercross after the demise of Group B due to the amount of spectators that bought it because the cars were so damned fast. Lovely looking car though, sort of like the bizzare bastard child of a Lancia Stratos and a Beetle.

I remember now, I read it in C≻ they reckoned the police used RS200s, but as you say it's not easy to believe!

I've shown this person that video of that drag race cerbera/Viper etc but he seems to think that the program set out to make the TVR win by giving them the best driver.

He won't believe that the 4.5 does 0-60mph in 3.9secs like TVR say so, he seems to think that TVR are lying and unless he sees the time in a road test then he won't believe that it could get this time and beat a US spec Viper......help me.....this person is really annoying!!

It takes a lot of skill and practice plus the right conditions to get a really good start, and it can be very hard on the car. So don't expect people to be too keen to trash their cars just prove a point to 'your mate'. Coming at it from another angle, why don't you challenge him to prove that Vipers are as fast as they claim? I *do* believe the TVR factory performance claims, but I quickly lose patience with people who think 0-60 times are a big deal. It's just a number. Believe, don't believe, who cares. It's not as if 0-60 times bear any great relationship to real world performance.

Is this good enough for him?

"WhatCar? For expert, impartial advice" (0-60=3.9 secs)

As Peter says, it's only a 'pub talk' number: to really convince him get him to go for a ride in one

Hey this is the guy.....Guibo.

He's a young teenager(13/14 I guess) and lives in the States.
I'd watch what you say because he's quoting everyone from this webiste.

He's unable to drive because of his age, lives in the States and the only way he can look at TVRs is his one copy of EVO where he continues to quote them.

The fact that he's so young, doesn't know how to drive and has never seen a TVR in his life and yet he can still bad mouth TVRs.

Go to www.supercars.net if you want a laff......it's under the cerbera 4.5 forum.....I warn you though...only if you want a laff!

My name is Elise_Manchester on there aswell.

I have no doubt he'll quote me on this too......you see he likes doing that!

Had a quick look around the site is the thread one of these? -
TVR Cerbera 4.5 v's Porsche Turbo v's Ferrari 550 or
TVR Cerbera v's Tuscan?

Tried to open the thread but kept getting server error messages, guessing that you have to be a member to view them? (if so Mr young annoying yank a message to that affect would be helpful !!!)

But more to the point why give a Muppet like him any credence by being bothered by what he has to say???? 0-60 is a crap stat, you have to trash your transmission and fry your clutch and tyres to get anywhere near the best times, 50-70 or EVO's TED are much more effective metrics of a cars real world performance.

Here, try these:

www.supercars.net/cMsg?viewThread=true&year=2000&make=TVR&model=Cerbera%204.5&fn=9

www.supercars.net/cMsg?viewThread=true&year=2001&make=Dodge&model=Viper%20GTS&fn=11

www.supercars.net/cMsg?viewThread=true&year=2002&make=Dodge&model=Viper%20GTS%20Final%20Edition&fn=65

BTW, it helps to read the threads from the beginning. Please make note that at no point do I disparage the Cerbera. I'm merely addressing documented road tests, the factory's claims and those who staunchly stand by those figures. My beef is not with any of the TVR's. Just the few who will defend their views in light of the evidence.
