That would great, I would love to see your car in the flesh. The yellow body with the dark lights look fantastic.

Well I managed to get to the MOT station on Saturday but the steering wheel electrics decided to throw a hissy fit!

It was left running for probably half an hour at idle and steam started to come from the firewall, then there was this almighty bang and the steam poured out the top of the car - at this point I was not happy and was some what pulling my hair out!

After we had left it cool down for a bit we put it in a spare bay (the guys at the garage were very good and let me take the thing to pieces in their garage) If found that the washer bottle had exploded...

It looks like it has been shot from the inside!

My theory is that the manifolds got really hot and heated up the washer bottle and where a zip tie was pushing against the bottle it created a weak spot.

I have now put some spare bonnet heat shield over the top of the manifolds...

However I am seriously considering putting some heat wrap on the manifolds but this will be a pain in the ass!

The emissions from the drivers side bank are also way off so when the car goes back in they are going to hook it up to the laptop and fiddle with the settings to try and get it right.

O/T

I have noticed this little pipe sticking out the bulkhead, anyone know what it is supposed to attach too?

sorry to hear of your nightmare :-(

Looks like barometric air pressure pipe to me - attaches to rear of pax airbox.

Real shame about the MOT! Especially after all the hard work that has gone into your car.

Very odd about the washer reservoir too. Have you rebooked the MOT already, or you going to wait until you've fixed those couple of issues?

Fitted some new washer fluid tubing after the other stuff melted due to proximity to the manifolds. I got 3 meters of proper silicone tubing (3mm) and wrapped part of it round one of the water pipes to warm up the fluid. I routed round the back of the battery and coolant reservoir to keep it well out the way of the exhaust manifolds.

This tubing is a smaller diameter than the clear plastic stuff that was on there before so hopefully it will come out a higher pressure.

I took some photo's prior to taking this off ...do not have access at the mo tho.

As long as the new steering wheel ribbon that arrives today cures the problem I will only have one electrical problem left... The sidelights not working on their own, they only work when the dip or main beam is on.

I tried starting up the car the other night so I could get the whole thing really hot and see if there any weaknesses anywhere. However I could not get it started again - the pump was not able to pressurise the fuel rail. As it was a new pump I was hoping it was not this. Several phone calls later to Ridds he managed to diagnose it as a faulty fuel regulator (zinc coloured thing on the back of the fuel rail) Ridds got me to test it by clamping the return hose from the regulator and then running the pump. Doing this the pump was able to pressurise the rail. Hopefully the new regulator arriving today will sort this!

I also have a leak in the victorian heating plumbing in the passenger footwell. The rubber pipes that go onto the plastic t-pieces are as old as the car and so no longer provide any flexibility. One of the leaks is the from the small part of the t-piece.

I have ordered a new t-piece as one is broken from TVR Power and some new 8mm silicone pipe from Tim at ACT.

Got all the little problems fixed and dropped the car in for a re-test on saturday. They are going to do it early this week and sort any problems that they come across.

I have put some under bonnet heat reflector on the bottom of the airbox (I have only done the nearside so far) This was after speaking to Tim at ACT and him recommending it. It is three separate pieces glued using superglue - I have no idea if it will hold but it was all I had to hand.

To match the carbon fibre dash I have made up a carbon plate to replace the stainless one. It needs to be lacquered and smartened up. It was very hard to get it the same size as the original stainless one - carbon is a bugger to work with!

Here is how the interior is looking so far...

About to leave for the MOT...

It was really nice to have just a short drive in it in the sunshine! Hopefully the first of many!

Looking good Mark

Did you get the dash covered in Alcantara or suede in the end??

Thanks for the compliments chaps!

I didn't in the end Steve as I could not find a purple that matched. The yellow Alcantara I have used is no longer made! I have emailed Alcantara if they have any left somewhere but not looking hopeful so far! I need to do the headlining still!

Mark just seen your pics of the trashed blade from cutting the carbon dash, reason for that, as far as i can see is that you used a wood blade rather than a metal cutting blade! Fair play dont think i could have managed to complete the cut using that, top marks for effort. Great thread and superb motor

UPDATE

After dropping the car in for the MOT on Saturday they could not get is started come monday. After much them having a look it apparently needed a new throttle pot and wiring plug. This has thankfully sorted the starting problem.

However! The emissions are way off on the offside cylinder bank so they are going to do a compression test to see what the problem is. Why is nothing ever straight forward!! weeping

Did they get the car totally warmed up before the emissions test?

Yeah it was very warm! I would be dubious if it were both banks but it is just the offside.
