Hi guys, my boot light isn’t operating correctly and would like to remove it and clean / replace what looks to be a screw headed bolt which may be part of the earth circuit for the switch. I’ve loosened the screw but there must be a nut behind rotating, I hope it’s not bonded into the body!

Does the switch come apart and come out before taking the screw headed bolt, if so this could allow me to access the spinning nut. I don’t want to damage it so a little know how would be good for the morning smile

Thanks

I had the same issue recently - replaced bulb etc and traced the issue to the boot switch. On mine the tiny nut wasn’t bonded but by luck I managed to recover it from the hole the switch slots into. I was pushed for time so decided to tackle it another day as it looked like I had to get access under the rear quarter to sort it.

You can reach the back of the nut from inside the boot..

I then took the switch apart, sanded it down lightly and sat overnight in some coke.

Works fine now.

Switch contact oil or switch clearer spray worked on mine. A good squirt and lots of working it. Wd40 might work also?

Perfect time to be sorting all those little niggles

Ok had a quick look today, am I correct in thinking the only way to get to the back of the boot switch nut is to try and get your hand up next to the gap behind the o/s\r light. If so
it seems near impossible???

The boot lamp switch was up near the boot hinge on my Cerbera. The screw goes through to a nut with the earth fly lead on it. The spade connector at the rear carries the 12V supply. Here's a thread about it, the switch is a rover door switch if you need one:

No, just need to reach up in the boot. The same area as the fuse box, but on the opposite side of the boot (n/s). Unless your boot switch is in a different place?

I would recommend getting it working as without it the boot is not protected by the alarm.

My boot switch is on the os, just above the boot switch. It appears to be solid fibreglass glass around the fuse box area.

Will keep looking / trying

Yes, mine’s roughly around the fuse box, RHS of the car.

Yes that’s where mine is, just can’t find a way to get to the nut on the back of the bolt to get the boot switch off.

Mine was in the same location as this thread for both my Cerbs ('97 and '98)
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=17...

So for you guys its on the fuse box side?

Yes this is the same switch and it on the fuse box side. You can easily take the switch apart in place and clean up the contacts. Be careful if you do there is actually 3 springs. Two large which control the return function of the spring and one small which holds out the small C shaped contact. I have been able to clean the C shape contact and the metal strip the contact slides against. It’s the earth ground point I now need to clean up which is held in place with the bolt and nut. I have run a temp earth supply from the earth above the tank to the face of the bolt and the light operates fine. So once I work out how to remove the bolt and nut clean up the earth point which is looking rusty I should be fine.

I'm guessing you won't be able to drill it out as the bolt is spinning in place? Otherwise it would be tempting to relocate it to the opposite side of the boot with access to the rear.

Is access to it from behind the rear seat. There's no access from the boot on mine

Iirc, when I had the rear light cover off there was access to behind the fuse box.. I don't quite remember now.. I would guess access might be possible via that or its a fusebox out job!
