Melling engine gets a home
ASVE announces exclusive dealership
Autocraft Special Vehicle Engineering has announced that it's been appointed the exclusive dealer for Al Melling's TVR AJP V8 replacement engine.
The motor is an all-new billet alloy 32-valve four-cam 5-litre pump delivering 580bhp at 7,300 rpm. Torque is 438lb-ft at 5,800rpm. ASVE said that the engine will bolt into the Cerbera chassis and mate to the standard bellhousing, and is a direct replacement for the TVR 16 valve 4.2- or 4.5-litre V8.
The company is a partner with engine designer Al Melling and supported by design and engineering consultancy MCD. ASVE said its mission is "to provide the markets of both TVR and our other exotic sportscar owners with an honest service, and our agenda has always been to keep the customer on the road and smiling."
Discussion
Speed 6 replacement? Quad Cam 32 valves? That's quite a fancy head? Surely you mean Speed 8 (AJP8) replacement?
Does anyone think that this engine will be the outsourced V8 that TVR are talking about for their new models? Would be absolutely fantastic if it was. Would be nice if they did the same with the Speed 6 too.
This certainly knocks all those Yank Iron (sorry Jellison, alloy
) conversions into a cocked hat.....at a price no doubt.

580bhp - might as well say 700 until run on the dyno or better in the car - don't doubt is possible with Melling directly involved and 4v heads though.
Hope Melling has more success than Ash did!

Surely the copyright of the AJP8 isn't actually with TVR (would be interested in clarification), so this engine seems to me to be an AJP8 with 32v heads - the engine that Melling wanted to be the original Cerb engine, but Wheeler wanting 2v heads for more lower down torque.

If this is a correct assumption then i now have a viable option for upgrading of my Griff and staying in the TVR fold with a Tuscan V8

You still have to put the power down . . . so dropping this 5er in your standard Cerb is just the beginning . . .
On the other hand: anyone with a well sorted AJP8 in the Cerb should think twice . . . this looks like a new motor . . . and I'm sure no one is waiting for a period of trail and error (again).

...Tuscan V8 ...
However I'd like to be wrong and the idea of a purely British bonkers big bhp V8 engine in the car you dream of being a reality

if it's got gobs of torque she'll be right, I wonder wether the trans and axle will take it tho

The article doesn't actually say whether it's a revised straight six, or a V8. Given the "pump" inference, couldn't it be a supercharged six?
5 liter?

No . . . you need to adjust / replace bits . . .
