Starter motor about to die?

I've posted before about my starter motor not engaging occasionally.
This morning it did the same thing, but then i got a high-pitched whine which sounded like something in the motor spinning at high speed.
It then started as normal on the next press of the button.
Anyone got any ideas?

I had the occasional whinning until one day it went from occasional to permanent. Cost me (well the AA warranty to be precise) a new starter motor

The starter is about to die... Had three in the last year and I have heard every dying sound a starter can make. Our first one made the same sound as yours and it was fine for awhile until it became terminal. Something for you to think about is that it could be lose and thats why its not engaging, give it a good shake and see first.

Just had a look at this and emailed them asking for price etc. They say their starter for the TVR (AJP) has increased cranking power and will start engine at any temperature and compression?
I could do with some increased cranking power as mine is a bitch to start when cold.
Anybody have any experiance of this starter?

OK Guys, got a price now from the starter motor manufacturer. Hope you are all sitting down!

What's the price of a new TVR one.
I also got the phone call today.
No Exchange as I never got a starter with the engine so that's another £100 to find, To rich for me.
Any got a spare one kicking about or even one of those Nissan's one's.
Just making the mount's etc up so could do with a correct size one to mock up with.
