Hello guys,

I am hoping that someone may have had a similar problem with their Cerbs to this one and can hopefully offer some advice.

Last summer I did a road trip to Geneva and Genoa. When i got back to Bedford I noticed that the car had started making groaning noises when coasting from time to time and quite often on slowing down. It also seems to groan a little more when turning left. It also occassionally groans when not moving. The noises sound like something reverberating against a part of the chassis at the front of the car.

These noises continued and got slightly worse so I took it to TMS who had the car for a while and could not diagnose the problem (£600!!). I called Jools who was extremly helpful as ever and told me that it was something to do with an air-lock in the oil pipes or something like that. The day before I was going to take it into Offord armed with Jools' information the noise stopped altogether and I have had trouble free motoring ever since.

Having just got back from Le Mans the car has started to do exactly the same thing again.

Does anyone have any experience with a similar noise / problem? I would like some feedback from anyone with any ideas on the cause and cure. I can't remember Jools' diagnosis very well as it has been a year. I feel guilty about calling him for advice without actually putting any business his way (too far north, no courtesy car).

All comments greatly appreciated

Thanks

Tony

Tony,

I had something very similar on my 4.2 about 2 years ago. It was a kind of wheezy groaning noise which I got when lifting off, which also sounded worse when going around a left hand bend. I posted something on the Yahoo Cerbera mail group (is that still going now that Pheads has taken over?) and someone replied with a rather urgent looking "CHECK YOUR OIL!!". With the dipstick readings being pretty unreliable I gave it a good top up of Mobil 1 anyway, and the noise went away.

Since then the noise only faintly re-emerged the once, and again, a oil top up seemed to cure it. It does kind of tie in with Joolz suggestion of an airlock in the oil pipe, so I'd give that a go if I were you.

Good luck.

Neil

ps What colour green is your Cerb....looks very similar to mine in Pearl Green?

Hello Neil,

Thanks for that advice. It does tie in with something Jools said about the oil and Cerb Mk2's being recalled to replace some sort of onion (sp?) thing at the bottom of the dipstick that was causing false readings. I guess a quick call to the factory would clear this up.

Does anyone else know of this recall? It would be nice to know what I am talking about before calling the factory.

It is Cooper Green - although still covered in French dirt at the moment.

If your car is male, that'd be just fine then

I thought you were hankering for a Tuscan Tony?

I had something similar last year. Turned out to be low on oil. I'd misread the oil level.

Hi Tony

Miles might be trading his up for a 400bhp one later in the year, if you want one with a bit of "history"!!!
It's got a very tight turning circle, if I remember correctly......

cheers

...if only it were mine!! shot was taken by previous owner, who (quite rightly) wanted to hold onto ROK3T. So now I have a humble S plate (the shame of it!!)

still goes like one, mind....

Mine always does it when the oil is ready for a top up. You can buy a lot of Mobil 1 for £600. This is a common occurrance. Im amazed Offord didnt spot it.

I didn't get it to Offord before - the noise went before then.
