My starter motor isn't going to last forever (or possibly too much longer for that matter) as it's started to whine a bit and is turning slower than it should.

I've been using the search here and there appears to be a couple of options available.

What one is best and where is the best place to get one from?

Talk to Jules Trackcar, mine was shot when I got it back , screeching and failing to start, took it to Jules it's now not missed a beat. Spins up real fast starts easily every time.
From memory, he has found a cure and a company that can refurb existing units to be better than new.

I've just been out for a spin, with a few stops along the way, and it IS beginning to fail.

frown

I'll have to address it this week.

These bloody cars.

You just think that you have them running nicely and they go and act up again.

As was pointed out to me on FaceBook recently "a hobby only goes so far".

I put the Maxima one on mine. Cost about £160/£180 if I remember correctly.

Is it simply a straight swap?

I was planning calling in to my local Nissan dealer in the morning and asking them to price on up for me but I don't want to end up with something that may ir may not fit.

The other option is to drop into a breakers yard and get a used one but I may end up with someone elses trouble by doing that.

If you look at the original thread link, and the last entry, it gives you a phone number. However, it was a cpl of years ago. As for it being a simple job, I got someone else to do it so cant comment.

Got a re-conned original item from TVR power £145 + VAT...if they have one in stack they normally swap them over on an exchange basis...

apparently alot of people have not been sending their exchange units in so they are ahort on stock...?

Worth a try?

Good luck! changing them over looks to be a bit of a pig...

What EXACTLY has to be moved / removed to get at the starter to get it out?

I've managed to get as far as one of the bolts holding it in and I can't even see the other (I assume there's more than one).

Also I can't see how it can possibly fit out with the fuel rail still in place.

Advise me ..... please.

I have a fully refurbed starter sitting around doing nothing that I would let go for £150 plus postage if anyone wants it.

Yes but .....

The local guy isn't really that good and all his overhauls tend to break down again after about a year.

He gives three months warranty with them.

Obviously I don't want to have the hassle of stripping it out too often.

I have heard of another company not too far away who have a good reputation so I might try them.

Perhaps he was the designated original supplier for TVR, eh?

wink

I actually ordered the one from the ebay link.

I spoke to them and after adding carriage etc, I'll still have it for about €265.00 which isn't too bad for a new one.

We'll see .....

I got the new one fitted tonight.

The car started better than ever since I got it.

Obviously the starter I took out was failing for a long time.

Hopefully the new one will turn out to be a decent quality one.

We'll see but at least I've got another issue sorted.

So, what's next ......
